Jupiter simply stood there not paying too much attention to the battle between magical snowflakes and his fellow mages. However things changed as the snowflake shot a snowball towards the punk mage, who failed to notice it in time and got hit on his left shoulder. Jupiter's shoulder started freezing from the magical snowball, but to make up for the coldness the punk's heated anger was pushing through as his eye twitched behind those sunglasses of his and on his face was the look people have when they are both furious and experiencing freeze burns, what ever that was called. "You son of a bitch!" It was debatable if calling magical snow spirits bad names was worth the effort, but at least Jupiter was now ready to beat the enemy with his anger fueled passion. Using his healthy right hand the delinquent opened the bag hanging around his waist and displayed his school of magic, floating marbles! Not very impressive, a child could do it... That however didn't stop Jupiter from believing in his magic. Soon the delinquent shot several marbles towards the snowflake that had just hurt him and was fighting with Dofun right now. Despite the usual horrifying appearance and behavior of the clown Jupiter wasn't quite as intimidated as usual by him as how fired up he was right now.

"Well done," said Samson, standing up and gazing over the two defeated snowflake spirits.
One was completely encased in ice, caused by Alden using a torrent of water to use the snowflake's freezing capabilities against it. the other was punctured with marble-sized holes and then cracked into innumerable pieces, too many to properly reform.
"It has been a long time since I've seen magic like this. Very interesting. Very powerful. Let us move on, however. There isn't much time left. I can feel it. Our enemies are getting closer to the ancient city. If we don't stop them... Well, let's just keep moving."
And they did. It wasn't an hour later before they entered into the valley between the two tall mountain peaks, symbolizing a kind of gate. Beyond the entrance, one could already see an ancient city on the horizon. A frozen one, with tall spires and giant pillars and colossal domes. A faint red glow could be seen from one of the distant buildings.
"That is it," said Samson. "The ancient city. The home of the lightbreath. Wait. Look!"
He pointed forward. Though it was just a tiny figure, one could just barely make out a horse-drawn wagon.
"That is it! Those are the ones who are responsible for freezing your guild and who are about to gain an even more dangerous power! We must stop them! Let me discover what is going on."
Samson slammed his palms together and closed his eyes. Not a moment later, he gasped, opening them again. "Using my magic, I've read their minds, their memories. Upon that cart is a dangerous man, and with him, your Guild Master, a one named Elrond. A weaker mage is also there. Wait, no. There is another person. Traveling... fast... in this directio--!"
A diamond shaped fist, attached to an arm, flew through the arm and slammed into the side of Samson's face, sending him skidding on his feet back a few meters before coming to a stop.
As the dust from the blow cleared, a man stood there. "I am Cruckus of Atrum Guild! I was told we had some rats following us, so I'm here to exterminate!"
Like a giant glove, a metal material covered Cruckus' arm. He flexed it, showing it off for all to see.
Samson took a few steps closer to the towering, huge figure of Cruckus. "You mages. Leave this one to me. Though I am old, I can't let a punch like that go without some kind of retribution. Listen well, mages. Chase down that cart and stop it no matter what. Do not let the mages aboard that cart reach the glowing light in the city. Otherwise, you'll all be doomed."
Samson chuckled as he cracked his knuckles. He reached to his side and drew his sword, and anyone around could feel the heat radiating from it.
"I do this, mages of Reanscence, because I knew your Guild when it was named Fable. It was mighty guild, and it would be a shame to see it go this way. Now go! Stop that cart, no matter what!"
---
Elsewhere, Elrond sat in the back of the horse pulled cart, still tied up. Sarah was sitting on a bench, resting her hand on her palm as she watched the Guild Master struggle.
Finally, Elrond gave up, sighing deeply and laying on his back. He looked over at Sarah and gave her a mean look. "Why are you doing this again?"
"Cause we need you," said Sarah plainly. "Apparently."
Elrond glanced at the front of the cart. Through the trap, he could see the rider. It was Mikas. Guild Master of Atrum. "Why do you follow a guy like this? Doesn't seem to have any respect for you, that's for sure. A Guild Master and his mages are supposed to be one in the sa--!"
Elrond grunted as Sarah slammed her booted foot against his face.
"Shut it," she said. "Guild Master is a good man."
Elrond chuckled. "Your tone doesn't say the same. What was all that, about putting you back in a card or something? What the heck does that even mean?"
Sarah slammed her foot against his face again. "None of your business! Don't even speak of it!"
"What is going on back there!?" yelled Mikas.
Sarah sighed, looking at Elrond in the eyes. "Just keep quiet, and don't try resisting. We're getting closer to the flame. You'll understand everything then."
---
Far away, back at Reanscence.
"You," said Atrum, plainly, pointing at Qi. "My Guild Master ordered me to come and fetch you and bring you back. That is all. I don't wish to wait any longer. Give me your hand and let's--!"
Atrum suddenly froze. She spun around. "Someone is here. I was told there was only one survivor."
Right then, the flaps of the tent opened up and standing there was Astral Lance. There eyes met for just a split second before Atrum reached out her hand and grabbed Astral Lance's face, pushing him to the ground. A strange black electricity sparked from her hand, showering Astral Lance's surprised face.
"You girl," said Qi, shooting a look at Qi. "Come here now, grab my hand." She stretched out her hand.

Qi's face fell. So Atrum really was looking for her. She became confused for a brief moment, thinking Atrum was her guild's leader, not some other person.
Seeing Astral Lance, the summoner struggled to stand, shaking as she balanced on her cane. She gasped when he was shocked by the black magic. She focused on one of the keys dangling from her cane.
Glaring at Atrum, she gritted her teeth in a rare display of bravery.
"No. No, I won't!"
The tent ripped apart. A shining golden light seemed to engulf the sky for a moment, showcasing the enormous magic locked inside of the tiny summoner. Indeed, truly, Qi was a master of magic. No one could possibly compare to the
derpiness of Horse's face.
The summon's mere size made Qi's spell look as though it was something extraordinary. The summoner squeaked as she balanced on the muscular giant's shoulder. He groaned and brushed off a piece of the tent from his other shoulder. Adjusting the only piece of clothing on his body, horseshoe pattern boxers, he looked down at Atrum and Astral Lance.
"I don't kill but I might have to make an... exception to anyone who threatens my Master. Isn't that right, Master?"
"Um... yes! Yes, that's right!"
Despite being the size of the guild house itself, Horse appeared to not want to start a fight.
"Ice-Make: Spear!" a voice called out from some distance away.
Pollux Road walked forward with a spear constructed from ice. He pushed his glasses further up on his face and frowned fiercely. Posing in a fighting stance in front of Atrum, he appeared to find his lost determination.
"Let my companion go," he said strictly.
"Whoah," Horse said with a whiny, "looks like we're having a party."
The wind nearly blew Qi's hat off. She seemed to be in permanent shock, having realized just who Astral Lance and Pollux were. Gulping, she wondered what kind of craziness Renanscence had gotten into.
Fortunately, she figured, the others were likely doing alright and having a normal, happy adventure.

"I do this, mages of Reanscence, because I knew your Guild when it was named Fable. It was mighty guild, and it would be a shame to see it go this way. Now go! Stop that cart, no matter what!"
"We really should make like... a bingo list, or something, of people who knew the guild in the past..."
Scoffing a bit at his predictions come true, Alden heeded Samson's sage advice to leave the scene and head into the ruined city after the enemy. If he wanted to stall this new opponent in order to allow the others to go on ahead, Alden wouldn't be the one to stop him, and proceeded onwards in a run. Whether anyone went with him though, remained to be seen.
"I'm going on ahead a bit, then I'm cutting out the distance, forget running all the way. Anyone with me?"
Running as he spoke, he pulled out his spyglass, calling back to the others as he looked for a good spot that was a safe distance away from the fight between Samson and the new enemy. Sure they could run through the ruins, but why bother? They could get lost, it could be a trap, and who knows what else. Alden's initial intention at least, was to simply warp the distance using his telescope. Surely he wouldn't be able to just teleport right next to the people they were after, but skipping across town in a few moments would likely be a good way of reaching the enemy before they reached the ominous light.

"We really should make like... a bingo list, or something, of people who knew the guild in the past..."
"Well, someone's late to the party! I've been filling mine out for a while now." In one hand, Dofun held a paper with a bingo chart on it, with some slots filled in. "I think i'll be able to win by the end of the week. Oh, and dear, dear Jupiter. Marbles? How come I didn't think of that? Yes, I should definitely get a pack of magical marbles soon. Maybe i'll find it in a treasure chest, or at the end of the dungeon. Wait, no, ruins, right? End of the stage, then."
Like Alden, he had no desire to get between Samson and a flying fist. Instead, he followed Alden and at one point bumped against him and invaded his personal space so he could ask a question. "Cuuuuuuuuuuting the distance, eh? And how are we going to do that? Can you fly? Are you a bird? Will you take us there with your talons? No, wait! You'll turn into a giant bird and we'll ride you from there! Oh, yes, Dofun and the Flying Circus! Best idea ever! That's what going to happen, right? Bird adventures?"

After succesfully defeating the snow spirit Jupiter threw one of his business cards at it, or rather at it's remains. That was defiantly quite pointless, but the delinquent just did purely out of habit, not thinking about it at all. Meanwhile the marbles also flew back to the satchel they all came out of just few seconds ago. "Y-you can get them for 5J a piece from the Magician's Market™..." If anyone else would have complimented him and his marble tricks Jupiter would have been glad and even showed off more of his awesome marblemancy, but not to this guy, Jupiter just couldn't keep his cool in front of Dofun. "Well that was one easy to find ancient city..." Jupiter was a bit disappointed when Samson announced that they had arrived to their destination. The delinquent wasn't quite sure what he should have expected, but there was certainly something missing here; maybe it was crazy traps set up by the ancient people to defend the city from intruders... Then suddenly a large and somewhat familiar looking man punched Samson who then told the group to chase a cart as he takes on the enemy. And maybe something about saving something... Alden seemed to have some sort of plan to get close to the target that did not include just mindlessly running towards the cart and assaulting it head on. Jupiter, however, wasn't going with that plan and instead just dashed towards the wagon.

"What? No noth... nothing like that. Bird adventures? What are you even... just grab on, and don't let go."
Alden did a double take at Dofun's strange outburst. He wasn't sure if the clown even knew what he himself was saying. Alden certainly didn't. Eventually getting back to the matter at hand, he took out his telescope, and held out his arm, waiting for Dofun to grab ahold.
"I was going to say something about keeping your eyes closed, as it can be pretty weird if you've never done it, but I don't think we have the time for that."
Similar to his return trip to the guild with Qi from an earlier mission, he would use the magical device to warp the pair of them towards the cart, assuming Dofun also wished to tag along. For Dofun, the change would be as sudden as simply blinking, and then they would be there. If he kept his eyes open though for whatever reason, it probably would have appeared as a mass blurring of color as the scene of the locations surged about them. Alden whom had suffered the transition before without being afforded the device, knew what the aftereffect was like, which was temporary blindness of a sort. For him at least, it was like having a bright light flashed in your eyes, the surge of blurred colors caught like a picture in the vision and slowly fading as the eyes adjusted to the change in scenery.
The easiest way to get there, and Alden planned to aim for the rooftops or high points of the ruins with each jump, so that he would be able to see as far as possible each time to make the next shift. By this method, it would not take very long to reach the cart.

The people aboard the wagon, Mikas, Guild Master of Atrum, Sarah, mage, and Elrond, hostage, rode swiftly through the ruined city. All around, the buildings were completely frozen, and if one paid enough attention, they'd see people in mid pose also frozen. It seemed some catastrophic event had occurred, freezing everyone in place and time. A cold chill blew through the air as the wagon pulled to a stop in front of a rather large building.
It was a circular building with a huge dome on top. Along the perimeter were giant pillars. Going up the steps, past the pillars, a double door could be seen with strange ancient inscriptions upon it. Through the cracks of the door, a bright yellow glow could be seen.
"Finally," said Mikas, stopping the horses, "we've reached it! Finally, the ancient flame can be mine! The magic long forgotten, it still exists here!"
Mikas hopped off of the wagon and commanded Sarah to drag out Elrond as well, and she did so. Together, they stood there, looking up at the massive building.
"Where is this place?" asked Elrond, but Sarah slapped him, telling him not to speak so casually in front of the Guild Master.
"It will all make sense as soon as we walk through those doors," said Mikas. "And you, Elrond, will be the catalyst for what is to come. But first... where is Atrum? She, above anyone else, should be back by n--!"
Mikas froze and spun around, hearing something on one of the roofs not far away. There, he made out two mages, Alden and Dofun! Immediately, Mikas brought out a deck of card and began shuffling them in his hands.
"Show yourselves!" shouted Mikas. "I have not come this far to be stopped by a couple of lowly spies!"
Elrond spun around and saw them and smiled brightly. "You guys!" he shouted. "Dofun and Alden! I knew you would find me! You're in for some trouble now, Mikas!"
Mikas looked bewildered. "What? Those two mages survived as well?" He spun around and punched Sarah square in the face, sending her falling to the ground with a bloody nose. "Did you kill even a single one of the Renascence guild!? You pathetic girl! If I didn't need you right now, I'd put you right back in the cards!"
"I-I'm sorry, Master!" muttered Sarah, bowing her head.
Mikas sighed and spun back around to face Dofun and Alden. "Well, what do you want? To stop me? Then come!"
---
Far away at the frozen Renascence Guild, Atrum was in the middle of a bout between her, Astral Lance, Pollux, and Qi who had summoned a celestial spirit.
"Well, this is not something I expected to encounter. Astral Lance, part of the Magical Council, and Pollux Road, a living legend.. How unfortunate."
Atrum's body suddenly was covered in darkness, as if she were a shadow, and then she vanished. She reappeared atop the Horse's head. She slammed her palm down on top of the head and suddenly giant centipedes, huge cockroaches, horned beetles, and creepy hairy spiders began to pour out of Atrum's palm like a waterfall, crawling all over Horse.
Some of the eerie bugs jumped down, aiming straight for Astral Lance and Pollux, but they were avoiding Qi.
"Be careful," muttered Atrum. "These bugs are poisonous!"
Although calm on the outside, even Atrum knew her time was running short. She detected three mages back in the frozen city. They had somehow caught up. She had to hurry and grab Qi and get back there.

Horse shook terribly as the bugs began to crawl down his face. Even Qi screamed, obviously never having seen magic like it before. The summon thrashed about trying to shake and swat the bugs off of him.
"B-b-b-bugs! BUGS! MASTER, HELP ME! THEY HURT SO BAD!"
"Horse! Uh... Um... Year of the Horse! Gate close!"
Qi squeaked, not realizing her folly. As Horse disappeared, she remained in the air for a moment before falling straight toward the ground.
"Ice-Make: Snowy Sheet!"
Snow covered the landscape like a blanket, appearing out of thin air. It was hard and dense where the bugs crawled, but soft and fluffy where Qi fell. Still, she had some difficultly getting up because of her bad legs. She grabbed her head and appeared to be somewhat affected by the whole experience. Members of Renaissance might recall she had suffered a similar fall as a child, which left her weak and fragile. But none of those people were here.
"Summoner! Do something!" Pollux called out, swinging his spear left and right in an attempt to kill the bugs approaching him.
"I... I..."
Thoughts raced through Qi's head.
Snake couldn't help in this situation. She wasn't a real snake, poison maker or immune to poison. And if she could somehow make to Atrum, would Qi's magic be enough to put her to sleep?
And there was the other key. Janus had mentioned he was working for Atrum. She hadn't made a contract with him so what would stop him from turning on her? There was no way she could establish a contract in time and save all of their skins.
"I'm useless without my friends!"
"Damn moron! Ice-Make: Arrows!"
Pollux kicked up some of the snow from the ground. They then soldified into ice shards and shot toward Atrum's locations, intending to skewer her.

Color. Just pure color.
For a moment, just the smallest moment, everything his eyes saw and mind comprehended just melted before him. Everything around him became merged, became new, became different. He didn't know what to think. It was as if reality itself had been changed. One second, he had been grabbing Alden's arm, the next second he ended up in some colorful wonderland. And the second after that, he was somewhere else entirely, although he couldn't see that.
"...Wow...Now that is a neat trick. And I thought you couldn't do magic...Ah ha ha ha."
It was unclear whether or not he was talking to Alden because the clown was facing away from him and wobbling in place. Behind his mask he kept blinking, unable to see anything more than...the thing. Wherever he was, he was cold. And someone was shouting at him.
"W-wha? A challenge! Don't worry, I can do this! I shall show whoever this is the error of their ways! Now, uh, I think - I mean, I know, of course I know, ah ha ha, that he is right over....here! Onwards!"
He ran forwards, only to fall off of the rooftop he was on. He hit some icy thing near the ground with a big crash and shatter, sending pieces of it everywhere. It took him a few moments to get back up, now even more disoriented than before. "Uhh, I, ah-ha! Gravity magic, I see! No matter! With this hammer, I can do more than enough to strike you down! A fine ending to this quest! Ah-ha!"
He sprinted forwards, his hammer behind him in his grip and ready to swing. He felt something touch his foot, and at that point he stopped in place and spun around to swing his giant hammer at an impressive and powerful speed.
The building he had just mistakenly ran to and attacked was now extremely damaged, as his hammer had broken through the ice and the wall inside it. Satisfied at his work, the blinded clown leaned on his hammer, humming to himself before speaking. "Ah ha ha ha, I did it, I beat him in one blow! In one foul sweep, I vanquished the foul beast. Now that was easy. What a pathetic little villain. Or maybe i'm just too good of a hero. Perhaps I should stay back from the mission next time and let the others be the hero of the story, eh heh heh."

"You were right about that, it's not my magic."
Tossing the telescope in the air in a spin, Alden caught the contraption and put it back in its place on his belt. It seemed Dofun didn't suffer any significant lasting damage (at least not that he could tell), so Alden didn't have to worry about helping him to reorient or otherwise put him out of his misery. Instead, he clamored down the side of the building after Dofun had just fallen off, and reached the ground.
Now there was only the mages opposed to them to worry about, Mikas and his lot.
"Stop you? We just want the guild master back... or at least that's what I'm after, I'm not sure about all this lost civilization stuff."
He hadn't drawn any weapons yet as he didn't just run right up to the enemy and start attacking. Partly because he hoped they could just settle this with words, but mostly because he hoped to stall for a bit till the other mages on his side caught up. Jupiter and whoever else.

"The road didn't look this long back there..." Jupiter ran through the ancient city looking at his surroundings. "That one guy seemed to have some sort of plan to get there fast and there he is, way ahead of me. So why did I decide to run instead?" His body heating up from exercising caused Jupiter's frozen hand to melt, now it felt more alive. "Why am I here in the first place?" However soon Jupiter caught up with wagon as well as Dofun and Alden. The punk had missed most of what had been said between the two parties there, but it wasn't that hard to figure out what was going on here. "So is it time for some ass kicking?" Jupiter asked his allies, especially Alden as he cracked his fists.

Mikas chuckled as he saw Dofun strangely attack a building, sending it to rubble. That didn't really bother him, but instead, made him laugh. If this was the group of mages who had taken over Fable, then there was no real need to worry at all.
He looked over at Alden as Jupiter appeared next to him. "What's that? Oh, you just want your Guild Master back? Haha, why, sure! You can have him back."
Mikas shuffled the cards in his hands once more, split them in two, mixed them together, then sat them in mid air where they hovered. He then drew five cards, grinning brightly at the results, laid one face down and then tossed one in the air where it began to glow brightly.
"I summon you, Cheshire Cat!"
When the light faded, the creepy looking cat that would have been familiar to the Guild appeared, grinning as it's body split into five. "Well, it is you people again... Unfortunate."
Mikas laughed. "You can have your Guild Master back after I'm done with him!" He turned to Sarah. "Girl, take him into the building and make him restart it, got it? And don't lollygag! Get going, now!"
Sarah nodded and grabbed Elrond's arm, pulling him along towards the building. One would think that Elrond would be able to pull away from such a skinny girl, but no matter how much he struggled, he could not pull free.
"You guys!" he yelled just before he vanished into the building behind the big doors, "You can do it! Don't lose!"
The Cheshire cats attacked. Three of them attacked Alden and Jupiter, one spitting a fire ball, the other an misty ice wave, and the last a burst of blinding bright light.
The other two went for Dofun. One had electricity covering its body and the other had magma oozing out of its eyes.
Mikas watched on as he drew another card.
---
Back at Renascence...
Astral Lance was busy stabbing bugs left and right, causing them to vanish, and he saw that Pollux was aiming straight for Atrum. "Aiming for her? Then let me give you a hand!"
As Pollux's ice arrows zoomed through the air, lightning circled them, giving them extra strength and speed. Atrum saw them coming, but didn't move. The Horse was gone so now she was also free falling towards the ground. Then, something interesting happened.
All the bugs vanished a split second before the arrows hit Atrum.
Only then, did Atrum vanish as well, reappearing on the ground a few feet from the snowy sheet where Qi was.
"Going against both of them at the same time," muttered Atrum as she walked over to Qi, "is just not something I have the time for."
Atrum lifted up a hand facing Pollux and Astral Lance, and a huge black wall appeared, towering hundreds of feet into the air and circling around Atrum and Qi, keeping all intruders out, unless they could figure a way in.
If not, Atrum would attempt to grab Qi's hand. "You're coming with me, weather you like it or not."
"Wait a minute," said Astral Lance, taking a step back and looking up at the giant black wall. "Did you see that just then Pollux? You can tell it too, right? She's using illusion magic! And if what I saw is right... Then it seems she can only teleport if there aren't any illusions around!"
He pointed at the wall. "And that means, she can't get away with that girl unless this big wall vanishes, right? That... That will be our one chance!"

Qi panicked, seeing the walls spring up around her. She actually covered her head with her hands in fear.
She tried to think of what her friends would do. Dofun, of all people, came into her mind. He used his opponent's powers against them. Qi didn't have that ability. She was as average as they came, only able to use holder magic, like Alden. And John, why at this point was she even thinking about him? He wasn't her friend, as much as she wanted him to be. She even thought of the strange men who went with them, Jupiter and Samson. She wondered what their strengths could be. If anything, they were likely stronger than her, definitely more useful than her to go and find Elrond.
But then she heard a voice. She rarely ever heard her summons without their physical presence. Whenever they did speak, she knew to listen, because it was going to be important.
Master! I'm fine! Snake said she thinks those bugs and the wall around you are an illusion. That woman has no real power. You can't let her take you away without a fight!
"What?" she asked, looking up at the sky. "Oh, OK! Horse! Let's do this!"
Standing before Atrum, yellow light glowed about Qi as she gripped one of the keys on her staff.
"You're going to have to try and get me, Atrum! I won't go without a fight! I summon the Year of the Snake!"
With a flash of brighter yellow light, the slitherly woman appeared about Qi's form. She embraced her on the ground before Atrum. With her arm stretched out toward Atrum, Snake intended on making her feel drowsy and delirious if she tried to grab Qi. She wouldn't be able to put Atrum to sleep. Qi's magic wasn't powerful enough.
"Try me now," the summoner challenged Atrum.
---
Pollux nodded at Astral Lance. Astral Lance might have noticed a smirk of approval from the ice mage. He frowned quickly
"If she teleports, she'll have the girl and, more importantly, the information she has. We can't let them get away. Damn, to be pro-efficient in two types of magic... this woman's tougher than I thought."
Still Pollux wasn't sure if the illusion magic didn't have physical property to it. There was only one thing he thought to do without hurting the summoner girl.
"Ice-make: Flowery Spikes!"
The instant Pollux smashed his staff down the ground, he aimed to maim Atrum as the snow beneath her would turn into deadly ice shards.

"So is it time for some ass kicking?"
"Not... yet."
Alden was glad to be backed up with the arrival of Jupiter now, but when Mikas appeared next to him, the mage hunter stumbled a few paces away with his shield raised. Then the cats were summoned, the same cats from before.
"Now it's time."
Before he could get the chance to draw his sword though, the cats begun their attack. Although he managed to block a fireball fairly well with his shield (it ended up a little bit on fire), he didn't expect the flash of light, which caught him off guard. As it was, he wouldn't be able to counter or dodge the incoming ice wave because of it.
