Elrond did not understand what was going on. Within his palm, he could see Asmoday there, saying she'd return. For a split second, a spark of hope could be seen in his eyes, but just as quickly it changed to anger. With all his might he threw the sphere upon the ground, aiming to shatter it to pieces.
"Lies!"
He knew it wasn't Asmoday. It was Achyls. "You think this is a game!?" he yelled out into the air. "Come out and face me yourself!"
---
Miranda walked down stairs back into the main hall. There she saw Briar speaking with Maisie, but it didn't appear her soothing words were doing much for him. Poor boy, she thought to herself.
She also heard Elrond yelling in his office, but didn't bother to check. He'd had a few outbursts already in the past few days.
Things were awfully bleak as she sat on one of the long benches with a glass of lemonade from one of the mage chefs. It was delicious, but bitter in her mouth.

As the woman expected, Druid slammed the door in her face the moment she said that she didn't have the books. That's all Druid cared about.
With the door slammed shut behind him, Druid got back to work, scratching his ass nonchalantly as he considered the plethora of options and possibilities. He wasn't going to be leaving any time soon.

"What is dees weapon?"
"You know, if you're going to imitate someone but can't get their voice right, the least you can do is not talk a whole lot."
Moving to his feet with the help of the stair rail, Alden took a step down and assumed a defensive stance with his sword held aloft. It was entirely possible that this really was Dofun, but Alden was borderline paranoid on a good day. If his hunch turned out to be false, then at the very least, perhaps Dofun would leave him alone.
---
Stanley heard the tapping from the dorms, but he wasn't sure what to make of it. He neared the doors, but made no effort to open them. In trying to understand what it was, Stanley tapped against the door right back, attempting to mimic the sound.
---
"That's ok Briar, I don't think anyone minds who or what you are, or at least I certainly don't. I'm glad to be your friend and able to be here with you as well, here's hoping the situation isn't as dire as you believe."
Maisie didn't mind at all what kind of person Briar was, or what his relevance in the guild was. This short time spent with him was convincing to her that he was a good person and well worthy of friendship and help. He said that the enemy would try to provoke the guild into action, but she felt now that even if he didn't, she would try to stand up for Briar even if it meant doing so on her own.
As focused as she was with him, she didn't notice all the strange goings on about the hall.
---
Fathom couldn't really hear the stranger through the diving suit and water, but they could faintly see them. With an auditory sounding of static and water-damaged speakers, the diver let out a shout of affirmation at the stranger and began to move towards them. Unfortunately, given said diving suit and water, this was a very slow process and the stranger would probably meet them over halfway the distance between.

(OOC: Mise elected not to post this round. Kurp, I'll post a small part as soon as you post yours.)
"Maisie," Briar said, pausing for a moment in his grief. He seemed to realize something in what she said, but it wasn't clear what. He looked confused and stared at the will he had tacked onto the wall. He got up and began walking toward it when he suddenly heard Elrond shout just outside his office.
---
Dofun paused and slowly tilted his head at a ninety degree angle. The crescent moon eyes on his mask seemed to stare directly at Alden.
"Imitation?" he asked in same cheerful voice. "Dees is no imitation! When did I ever say I was your friend?"
---
When Elrond threw the sphere, it indeed smashed onto the ground. The sand inside dispersed and flew about the guild. Every inch it covered became dark, as though a black fog had been cast over it. It crawled up the walls and the ceiling until the whole guild was cast into shadow.
Each mage glowed a soft orange light, so they could easily be seen in the guild hall. Qi looked at Snake in quiet wonder, noticing she was surrounded in a white aura, perhaps since she was a Celestial Spirit. There were only two who glowed differently in a deeper, purple light. Briar and Dofun.
"Is dees a challenge?" Dofun asked Elrond loudly, now hanging off the stair railing by his feet near Alden. "How cute! Yoou want to fight? Then so be it! Stop wasting yoour time thinking about that bitch Asmoday and fight me, yoou silly person!"
"L-l-lord Achlys?!" Briar asked from the other end of the hall, shivering terribly. His face turned pale as he fell to the floor. He backed up against the wall and hid his face in his floppy ears.
He yelped, suddenly feeling Achlys, in the disguise or in possession of Dofun, appear next to him. He had warped to him, shifting into sand and floating across the guild. He pressed Dofun's mask right up to Briar's will. How he could read it at that distance was anyone's guess.
"What is dees?" he asked in the same, cheery tone. "A will? Yoou mean yoou actually want dees hoomans to live? Endeemeeyon, I thought I knew yoou better!"
Achlys pulled Briar up by the arm and embraced him in a cringe worthy side hug. He nuzzled Dofun's mask to the mage's rabbit-like ears. According to Briar, the two had never met before. This was all too evident, given his terrified reaction to Achlys's presence.
"No, you must be yoking," Achyls continued. "He's yoking, right? No son of mine would actually choose the lives of weak hoomans over himself!"
---
Stanley would only hear a single tap and a long moan in reply. With all that was going on in the hall, it wouldn't be be a surprise if he didn't address whatever was beyond the door.
---
The person crawled slowly but surely toward Fathom. It took some time, but eventually the two came together.
It was now clear that the person was Cinder, completely covered in mud. Her blond, curled hair was weighed down and ratted. Her clothes were wrecked and and tattered. The only previous beauty that remained was the blue of her eyes, still bright and clear.
"Woo," she said, peering up slowly at the glob of water surrounding Fathom and his smaller friends. Suddenly, she leaned forward and actually tried to lick the water.

"...That's funny. Ah ha. Ha ha ha ha. Reminds me of...something..."
Dofun looked with a spark of wonder in his dead, tired eyes at the rebellious dog. A doggy with a dagger. Dagger dog. Ah ha. Ha ha ha. Ah ha. Ha ha. Ha.
"..."
His thoughts still came slowly, but some of them were no longer wandering about in the haze of his mind meaninglessly. Memories came to him. Memories of animals, of blades, and blades held by the animals. A...tent. A fire. Fun. Something fun, yes, something, something...
Doggy has glass. Neat. Wish I could do that.
A blade of glass shot out from Dofun's arm, sticking out like a jagged spire. He blinked in surprise and slowly raised an eyebrow at the sight. Huh. He didn't know he could do that.
Wait...wait...wait one...single...second.
Animals, a circus, fire, copy magic, no, mimic magic...this...this was, this was...
Ah, yes!
One moment later and Dofun's face had been covered in a glass mask. It was very smooth and well-made, but hid nothing at first. One snap later and the mask was altered to be reflective rather than transparent; he was getting the hang of this "mimic magic" stuff pretty quickly. He wondered where he had gotten it from.
"...Hm. No one interfere. Dog." He pointed the glass blade at the white fluffy ball of adorable. "Where did you get such magic?"
His brain had not yet remembered that animals were incapable of speech, it seemed.

The pomeranian took another step back, not expecting Dofun to suddenly adopt its glass magic. It tilted its head in confusion, but then resumed its defensive stance.
"Woof! Woof!" it barked in reply to Dofun's question.
The glass daggers floated in the air about the dog and melted into shards. They spiraled up until they formed into the image of a girl. It wasn't very detailed, rather looking like a person who stepped out of stain glass. The curls of her hair spun about like clockwork.
Eventually, the glass fell about the girl. She lifted her arm in the air in silent agony as her form fell to pieces. The shards gathered together and formed a crude version of the pomeranian before Dofun.
"Woof!" the dog barked again, bringing the glass back toward it in case Dofun would order an attack again.

Elrond gasped as the entire guild went black in shadow, except for the orange glow behind two certain ones.
Elrond spun around when he heard the voice. Though the body looked like Dofun, he knew who it really was. Immediately, he raised his hands and two collumns of earth shot through the floors, but before he used them to attack in any way, he stopped himself.
It could have been Dofun's body, and Elrond couldn't harm Dofun.
"Achlys! You want Briar, right? But there has to be something more important to you that we have to trade."
If it didn't have to come to violence, it would be for the best. Nevertheless, the entire situation had went bad fast, and even though Achyls stood in the room with Renascence's most powerful mages, he wasn't sure if any could attack him if that body truly belonged to Dofun.
He promised himself that he wouldn't give up Briar, and certainly wasn't going to give up Dofun either.
Still, Elrond was thinking of other solutions. He looked to Qi. "Can you bind him some way, perhaps with one of your summons?" It was a shot in the dark, but anything to keep him still would be best.

After his adventures in the town Jupiter had now returned. It really did not take him all too long and soon enough he opened the guild door and walked inside. He had changed his outfit, the general look was the same, but now Jupiter looked like the richest thug in town he had a new jacket that was covered in diamonds, a new scarf that was made of the finest silk money could buy, his belt buckle was actually made out of gold, instead of being a cheap imitation, and all his other clothes had also been changed to more expensive models, expect for his sunglasses, that were still the same. Jupiter was also still in a very good mood and it was very obvious. ”What the hell is going on in here. It's all dark and ya're all glowing.” Then Jupiter took a quick look at himself and noticed something.”Oh... I'm glowing too...? What the... Whatever... Guys, listen, I just bought a boat and ya know it's such a great day so we should all go sailing.” True enough a luxury yacht was anchored near the guild and it had not been there just a few minutes ago. ”I really dunno how to sail that thing or anythin'. I've never really been on a boat before until today. But it'll be fun so let's go!"

Everything went dark, and Alden didn't have much time to react. Without some means of seeing in the dark, beyond what was already provided, he couldn't enact any greater plans to deal with the enemy than what he already had. Thus, he relied on his own possessions for the time being. Sitting down on the stairs again, he opened the jar of sand he had and placed several rounds inside. Closing it again and shaking, he though it was worth a try to see what happened.
---
On a good day, Stanley couldn't see anything anyway because he wore a blacked out helmet. Therefore despite all commotion going on, he attempted to open the door to not-see what was on the other side making the noises.
---
The grimy mess reached the block of water, and though Fathom couldn't quite make out who it was, they seemed in need of help and it seemed clear what they were after. So without trying to make them strain harder, the mage channeled a torrent of water right at Cinder. Thankfully it wasn't saltwater, but it was still overkill. Then again maybe it would help.
---
Maisie was taken aback by the display of darkness, but without warning Briar was wrested from her by the Dofun imposter. She rose to her feet, but already he was beyond her reach. Thankfully Elrond was on the scene, and as usual he had some sage words to offer.
"Hey yeah, that's a good point! Even the lowest bug is worth more than the creation of some monster, so we can make a fair trade!"
She imbued her words to strike right at Achyls as a being, rather than any physical part of him. Of course it could totally not work, but she picked her words with reason, since that was about all she could do. It was a shame she wasn't a fighter type of person, as she figured being able to physically strike the very essence of something with a weapon would be handy right now.

Alden would likely notice that the ammunition he placed in the jar of sand now shimmered with a purple tint. It was unknown what added effect it would have, but it wouldn't be unreasonable to assume it now had similar properties to Achlys's Sand.
---
"Something moore im. port. tant?" Achlys asked Elrond, tilting his head so that Dofun's mask peered at him sideways. "Silly hooman! Thinking I would trade my son for something else? He is a pussy, but he's still my son!"
But then Maisie's comment actually turned Dofun's mask bright red in apparent anger in the dark.
"Hooman! I am no monster! How could yoou call a sexy thing like myself a monster?"
Briar stopped shaking and peered at Maisie solemnly. Even in Achlys's presence, he seemed more collected than he had in the past two days.
"Do you really think that, Maisie?" he asked. He didn't catch on that she was trying to bluff for his freedom.
"She thinks yoou're lower than the insects!" Achyls whispered in his ear. "Yoou're as good as dirt! How does that make yoou feel?"
"Awful," Briar responded, just Snake snuck up behind Achlys. She had been asked by Qi to get a hold of Achlys so they could take him out. The summoner thought Snake, immune to most sleeping and waking spells, would be the best fit.
However, she went right through Achlys, who fell apart like dust, and ended up crashing into Briar.
"Oh no!" Qi shouted, looking to Elrond in panic.
"I did not mean to do that!" Snake explained, trying to help Briar off the floor. The demon backed away from her and stood up against the wall. The summon watched on in quiet horror.
"Look what yoour friends have resorted to!" Achlys said, reforming next to Briar. "They're scared that yoou're learning the truth! Behold!"
Just then, Jupiter walked through the door, dressed in expensive luxuries he would eventually pay for with the inheritance he would receive upon Briar's death. Tears immediately formed in the demon's eyes. He tried desperately to hold them back, but the pain was too much.
"I should have seen it before," Briar said, holding his head down. "I should have known that none of you actually cared about me. I wanted so badly to be a friend to someone, but I wasn't good enough. Jupiter... no... every one... you want me dead, don't you?"
Dofun's mask on Achlys's face actually began to change. The mouth curled and stretched, forming into a horrible smile. He was delighted.
Briar looked directly at Jupiter. Suddenly, the rabbit-like ears on the side of his head stuck up, revealing a glowing pale purple light underneath. His eyes began to glow the same color, hinting at whatever terrible power Achlys bestowed upon him, hidden away until now.
"You never wanted me."
Suddenly, every mage in Renascence would see white. As the white color began to fade, they would see that the lights of the guild were back on and Achlys's spell negated. But that wasn't all they would see. Their senses would be heightened to a painful extreme. Their eyes took in too much around them. Every drop of water outside would be registered through their ears. They would feel every individual fiber of their clothes that touched their skin. It was a glimpse of insanity. Even stronger mages like Elrond and Jupiter would be affected by the spell.
After about a minute, the spell would begin to fade, but their senses would still feel incredibly raw and shocked.
"It was like Achlys's Sand," Qi said with a rather excited look. "That was just like it, but a little less."
Perhaps realizing she shouldn't have been happy, she frowned and then took the opportunity to call Snake back, preparing to use another summon spell just in case.
Through it all, Briar stood very still. His ears were back to normal, flopping down at either side of his face. He looked absolutely defeated.
All the while, Achlys kept staring at him at an uncomfortably close distance. Dofun's mask was nearly pressed up against the side of his head.
"Do yoou see now, son? Do yoou see? Hoomans will never love yoou. It's time to come home to Papa and sentence these hoomans to wonderful death."
---
If Stanley had opened the door in the chaos, he might have seen Beauty lying on the hall floor. Her eyes looked bloodshot, as though she hadn't gotten any sleep in days. She seemed too weak to move.
"Briar," she muttered. "He's trying to get Briar... to change his mind..."
---
Cinder fell over from the sudden stream of water, wiping off enough mud to reveal her delicate face. Her lovely glass armor was gone and her sundress was nearly destroyed from throwing herself into mud.
Getting up, she gladly stuck out her tongue to get more water from the stream. She didn't even look at Fathom now. She was too obsessed with getting something to drink.
Nearby, Fathom would be able to see the sudden burst of light stream through the guild halls. Something was going on inside.

Elrond felt powerless. He was a fighter, but how could he fight against someone who had one of his companion's bodies? When Snake's body went through Achlys, he knew that physical attacks might not be an option at all.
And when the white light came and went, Elrond fell to his knees. He looked at his arm to see it disintegrate before him, but a second later reform.
"Don't do this, Briar," he said to the mage. "Resist it. You may be his blood, but it doesn't mean you can't stand on your own two feet."
His words might have sounded empty, and Elrond wouldn't have been surprised by that. Things were just getting worse and worse.

Something was wrong; it would seem like no one wanted to go sailing today and doing that alone just did not sound right, especially as Jupiter had no clue how to actually sail the boat. Oh well that could wait for later; Jupiter had a life time of luxurious sailing ahead of him. Or at least a few months until he realizes that even if he were to get the billion from Briar he did not know how to spend it smartly and would instead blow it all on things he really did not need, like a diamond covered jacket or a yacht. ”What's with Dofun? There's somethin' really weird about him today. …Whatever.” It wasn't the weird accent that Dofun spoke with that was unusual about him, but rather the fact that there wasn't anything scary about him, unlike usual. ”Just how damn dense is this guy?” Jupiter had always disliked Briar and he had made it pretty obvious, with smashing him through a window and all, but even then he still thought that they were friends. Jupiter's opinion on Briar had improved when he found out that he would inherit his massive fortune and if Briar were to live obviously he wouldn't get the money. Then again, no matter how much Jupiter disliked a person or how advantageous it would be to him he wasn't cold enough to wish death on anyone. But in this case the answer was obvious: ”Ya'know if ya were to live all of us were to die. I don't really get math or anthin', numbers are always a mystery to me, but I know that there's only one of ya, but more of us.” Jupiter was a bit lost when he suddenly saw something he hadn't seen in years, white. That only lasted for a moment though as soon he could see again, but even then something unusual did pierce the ultimate darkness that is Jupiter's shades, however it wasn't exactly painful the same way it may have been to others. The shades did not protect his ears however and hearing all these sounds were very painful to him and to combat it Jupiter stuffed his fingers in his ears. Atre also suffered from the heightened senses and as one might guess it was all ”...horrible.” to him. Despite all the pain he did not look any different from before, he looked to be suffering just as much as usual.

Stanley was met with Beauty, and wasn't sure helping her us was a good idea. Instead, he leaned down, and after awhile eventually asked her the simple question.
"Can you change his mind?"
---
Fathom was somewhat uncomfortabled by Cinder's actions, and for a second round hit her dead on with the force of a fire hose. Before a reaction could be expected though, the diver turned attention to the guild building and slowly neared the entrance with the intent to open the doors.
---
To some extent, Maisie was disheartened by Briar. It was almost like he didn't want to be saved, but she didn't care if he hated her for it, she wanted to save him.
"Lower than the insects maybe, but still better than a monster. Nothing is worse, more disgusting than that. Please hurry up and state your terms Achyls, so that you can leave our guild. Your disgusting presence is making all of us sick, monster."
Masie hoped that Elrond's encouragement would help Briar, meanwhile she attempted to draw the attention of Achyls. It seemed one was incapable of understanding her efforts, so she would concentrate on the one who did.
---
Alden saw the change in the bullets, initially intrigued, but beyond that he had no idea how to make use of this new development. He supposed he could just try to shoot the enemy, maybe a weapon imbued with his own essence would strike true, but he didn't want to act to hastily against what could be seen as Dofun.
For the time being, he merely loaded his rifle for firing, but returned it to his back in case he actually needed it later.

Beauty stared up at Stanley, hardly comprehending what he was saying. Her face flushed red and she looked away, trying to hide any sort of emotion.
"No," she managed to say. "I don't think I can."
In a quick glance, her eyes took in Jupiter's riches and her embarrassment turned into silent rage.
---
After the spell had faded, Briar looked about the guild, holding his head down in shame for lashing out like he did. His guilt was made all the more worse by Elrond's insistence that he could break free from Achlys's graps or Maisie's further comments. There was no exit he could take now. He had to face what he knew was coming all along.
"If I were to live, you all would die," Briar repeated after Jupiter. "You're right. It's not fair. Even now, I couldn't live with myself if I only traded your life for mine, Jupiter. You all mean much more than a creation of a monster. I can't stand on my own at all."
"WHAT!" Achlys shouted, grasping the sides of Dofun's mask in agony. "SERIOUSLY? Yoou have to be kidding me! Yoou little shit! Yoou're no son of mine! That's it! I've had it! If I can't convince yoou to come back with me, I'll choose a new son from one of yoour worthless hooman friends!"
Grasping onto Briar's shoulder, Achlys triggered something in the demon. Magic overtook him as his ears flew up again and the white light enveloped the entire guild, blinding everyone and sending them into what felt like a deep, dark sleep.
---
"Welcome to the Arena of Most Excellent Death!"
It was hard to tell how much time had past or how far they were warped, but the Renascence guild members would find themselves in the middle of an enormous arena made of black stone. It was huge, enough to fit thousands in its empty seating. It was open, allowing the deep night sky to be seen from any location inside, but even though it was night and there were no visible light sources, they would be able to see just fine. The place was illuminated by magic, it seemed. There was a dullness to everything, almost as though the arena was lifted from the pages of a storybook.
Achlys, still in the body or illusion of Dofun, sat on a large throne, situated on an immense pillar in the center of the arena. It was likely five or six stories high. The floor beneath the throne spun round and round like a modern office chair, so that the dark mage could face in whatever direction he wanted.
It looked like Dofun wasn't the only one captive by the dark mage. Now Cinder's head rested on his lap, much like a lap dog, with the upper half of her body leaning on the throne over his thigh. For all the mages knew, she could have been sleeping.
"Yes, welcome!" Achlys said, clapping his hands in excitement. "Yoou are here to prove your worth! Fight yoour opponent! If any of yoou impress me, I give yoou back my pussy son and return yoou to yoour dumb guild."
He pointed a ridiculous black jeweled scepter at a cage that hung from the side of the top of the throne. Inside was an adorable rabbit. It had long ears that exceeded the length of its body and dangled out of the cage. It had a look that was a cross between helplessness and worry. It likely wasn't too hard to infer what or who it was.
"But if yoou defeat or kill yoour friend, I might make yoou my new demon child! Who doesn't want demon powers? I can't think of a single hooman who doesn't!"
Leaning back in the chair, Achlys stroked Cinder's head. The mud and grime from her adventures before were gone. Not a trace of water was in her dry, curled hair or the restored baby blue dress she wore.
The smile on Dofun's mask grew larger and larger, practically encompassing the entirity of the bottom half of his face.
"Now fight! Fight for my entertainment!"
---
Each of the mages would find themselves paired against another in separated segments of the arena, all surrounding Achlys's throne. They had gray stone floors with the same black walls of the rest of the place. Each section was triangle shaped, curved only on the inside wall by Achlys and the outside wall bordering the spectator seats by a fifteen foot wall.
They were all in fit, fighting condition. Whatever was a normal condition for them would be what they found themselves in now. Likewise, whatever items they owned that they needed to succeed would be with them as well. Perhaps Achlys had been stalking some of them long before this event ever took place to make sure they were properly geared.
It was unknown whether or not Achlys, Dofun or Briar could be hit with projectiles, magic or any other attacks, though the participants were definitely free to try. The walls separating the participants might have also been breakable, but it wasn't certain now.
---
In the first segment, Elrond would find himself matched with none other than Qi, the summoner. The guild master would know very well that prospect of gaining demonic powers was all Qi needed to obtain the strength she so desired. She stood very still, leaning on her cane with her head held low. Her eyes were fierce and cold.
"I'm sorry, Elrond," she said regretfully. "I can't miss this opportunity."
Raising her cane up, she looked to the stars.
"I summon the Sign who reigns over the Fifth Hour! Come forth, Dragon!"
A flash of golden light shot out from the key ring on the cane. A small creature appeared on top of it. It was a tiny seahorse, dressed in dapper clothing. He bounced on his tail, flapping his fins as he looked back at his summoner with a smug face.
"Are you daft?" he asked. "Summoning me for some kind of magic duel, are you? I'll have you know; there's no such thing as magic! Why, if there was, fire could leap from the very ground!"
Suddenly, a torrent of fire shot up from the earth between Elrond and Qi, separating the two completely with a six foot wall of chaotic flames.
"That's quite the coincidence!" Dragon shouted in surprise.
It seemed the summoner might not have wanted to hurt Elrond, at least for now. Instead, she appeared to be preparing a greater attack. The key ring on her cane began to glow again as she began to focus.
---
In another section of the arena, Jupiter was pitted against Beauty. Like some of the others, she had been restored to full health.
"You couldn't wait one day," she growled. "You couldn't wait until Briar was gone to spend the money, could you."
She rolled her head and cracked her neck.
"You won't get any mercy from me. Beast Soul."
Beauty's body became dark and grew in size. It expanded more and more until she grew twice as tall as the marble user. Her horns were massive, even curled, they tripling the size of her head. Dark fur covered her entire body, ending at her hoofed feet. Her eyes were dull white, devoid of any clear emotion. She was nothing less than a monster, looking almost like a minotaur of mythology.
Stepping forward, she brought her arm down, aiming to tear Jupiter in her claws.
---
The rest of the mages were organized as such:
Alden vs. Miranda
Atre vs. Maisie
Celeste vs. Fathom
Groundhorn vs. Stanley
(OOC: I've definitely left out some characters so feel free to post your own arrangements for this. If you'd like me to include your character myself, I'll edit this post as soon as I can.)
