In a world not unlike our own...
The year is 1963. Nuclear threats are everywhere, and research on radioactivity is at the forefront. Martin Luther King's "I have a Dream" speech was not two weeks ago. The summer is coming to a close, and with it, the Age of Humanity. Superpowers are emerging everywhere, whether from radioactive research, or innate abilities awaking within oneself. People with great intelligence are creating strange machines capable of great feats, and the governments of the world simply cannot keep them under wraps any longer.

For thousands of years, people with powers and mysterious magical artifacts have been naught but rumor. Who would believe that Alexander the Great held with him a magical device that made the known world bow before him? Who would believe that Genghis Khan was actually the world's first mutant, with an incredible durability and strength? Who would believe that Benjamin Franklin mysteriously disappeared from time and became a time traveler himself?
Absolutely preposterous stories. Why, the US government even denies the involvement of these "superpowered" entities being deployed in the Second World War, and so do the Russians. Nazi Germany was even to have been rumored to have collected the very artifact that Alexander the Great once held in his palm, with various others. But it was easy to distract the public. The long brewing hostilities between the two biggest countries in the world had boiled over, and the Red Scare began. Your common man wanted to fight communism, not worry about these funky rumors out of the last world war. However, as the next few decades passed, the state of constant fear and war took its toll.
Blacks seemed on the road to gaining civil rights, trouble in Vietnam was ready to start another world war, the New Left gains a foothold in politics around the world, and there were even calls for worldwide revolution. Truly, this is a tumultuous time for all. Who will guide the human race into the future?
Will they even be human? Will they have our best interests at heart?
We shall soon see.
