The plan sounded perfect for the Seven Heavenly Virtues. Bust in, grab the baddie and kick him out. However, when the sheriff couldn't remember his own grandfather's name, M immediately grew suspicious. Who didn't remember their own grandfather's name? Well, she didn't, but she was a special case. This was all very odd and happening quickly. She didn't even realize she never learned the sheriff's name either.
"Lian," she said later as they confronted him dealing with the thieves. "You could have waited and told your plans. Your actions aren't the ones of a patient man you know."
While everyone was focused on Lian, M walked up to the prison and proceeded to walk straight into the wall. Normally, she would have followed the sheriff, but she wanted to investigate things for herself. It was a hypocritical, considering she had just told Lian not to go off on his own. Instead of phasing through like she thought she would, she smacked into it and fell over, rubbing her head in pain.
"Ow. Ow. Ow. The wall didn't open itself to fazing. The only way that power could fail is if someone knew the possessor was coming and didn't want him or her to come in. But how could that be?"
Looking to Arx, M feared they'd been tricked somehow, but she knew not to jump to conclusions.

The Captain turned towards the old man. Laughing slightly, he placed his hand to his head. “Let him come. It’s foolery to come alone and yet he to. I’ll crush his head in front of everyone to show them who owns this town,” the Captain said more to himself than to the old man.
The Captain the grabbed a large blade from the selth next to the his desk. Wrenching it from the wall, the Captain then sat in the chair behind the desk. “Crush his skull I will.”
-------------
Harlow didn’t laughed or smiled. He simply stared at the boy. “Why nothing. I did nothing. Justice did this to you. You have sin in your heart. Even without the ring I can tell. Justice will meet you. It will meet all of you, because they are coming.” With the final sentence Harlow stood and looked down on the boy angrily.

Arx frowned when M's abilities were not working. "Someone must have seen us coming," he said. "And if that's the case, they'll be ready for a fight."
"That's what we came here for anyways," said the Sheriff. "We have to redeem this town or die tryin'. Let's go."
So, the Sheriff lead the way into the prison right behind Lian. He didn't know exactly what Lian's plan was or where he wished to go, but the Sheriff knew where he had to go. He went straight up the stone stairs up to where the Captain's office was. He slung the door opened and pointed his gun.
"I've come to take this town over," he said flatly. "If you know what's good for you, you'll get out of this town right now."
Arx stood behind the Sheriff, cracking his knuckles. "I think that is a fair recommendation," said Arx. "O-oh, you're here too..." Arx was surprised to see the old man he had met outside of town.
"Can't believe I let you into this town," he said. "Should have sent you on your way. Now you're helping to take over. I can't believe it!" He readied his spear.
---
"They're coming?" muttered Simon, still struggling against Harlow's powers. He couldn't even budge. "Let me free then! I have to warn my father! Let me go you monster, and I'll give you your ring back!"

"Thou shoulth stop doubting me." Lian was once again upset as M questioned his patience; this wasn't about it, but something else. Lian rarely really explained what he was doing in too much of a detail anyway, but he did say this: "I hath come here to meet with someone." "Expected or nae, that doesth nae make ane difference." Inside the prison Lian did not go to the same place as the others and instead went on his way to search for the cells and the strange prisoner he wanted to meet with. That's why he was here after all.

Harlow smiled slightly at Simon as pleaded. Releasing his power from the boy, Harlow bent a bit so his face was closer to the boys. “Bring back the ring please,” Harlow stated though it sounded more like a command than a request. Harlow then sat himself back down against the post his feet were chained to. Yawning slightly he turned his attention away from Simon and down the hall.
----
The Captain turned quickly as his door was busted open. Laughing slightly at the Sheriff he shook his head. “You come to reclaim this town and yet all you can muster is a couple of outsiders.” Without taking his eyes off the sheriff the Captain snapped his fingers. Without warning several soldiers appeared behind the group spears and swords at the ready. “Now what was that about reclaiming the town?”

M laughed to see the old man arrived. She seemed genuinely surprised and delighted at the man's willingness to fight. Her attitude changed when the Captain and the guards arrived, surrounding them entirely.
"Arx, you can handle this."
The comparatively small Virtue exhaled and breathed in. Her eyes grew wide.
"Hark! It's the eight member of the Seven Heavenly Virtues! Assertiveness's Virtue, Frank!"
M drastically pointed to the ceiling and then immediately ducked and tried to sneak away. If she was successful, she would crawl beneath two of the guards and sprint after Lian, who she was still angry with. Like him or not, she had to find out what she was doing. Her curiosity was eating her from inside.

Simon smiled as the bond placed on him by the prisoner was released. He could move his body. The Ring. Now he understood why the prisoner was o frightening, but he also knew the Ring held his true power.
Simon ran out of the room as quickly as possible, glad he could get free with such a simple lie. "Like I'm really gonna give you your ring back, stupid prisoner," muttered Simon. "As soon as I tell my father about th--!!"
Simon bumped into someone and fell back on the ground. Looking up, he saw Lian. "Who the hell are you!?" he yelled. "People aren't allowed here!"
---
Elsewhere, the Captain had proclaimed a fight and summoned some of his guard. The old man was in the front, leading them, his spear in hand. "I thought I could trust you!" he yelled at the Sheriff before jumping through the air, stabbing forward.
The Sheriff lifted his gun and shot it straight at the old man. However, the gun did not make a sound nor did a bullet come out. Still, the old man fell to his side, grasping his seemingly unwounded chest in pain.
The Sheriff looked down at him and shrugged. "Sorry, old man. I'm doing this for my grandfather."
The old man's eyes went wide and his jaw dropped. Through clenched teeth, the old man muttered, "You're doing this for him? That man...? I can't believe this. How could you help someone like--!!"
The Sheriff pointed the gun at the old man again and shot off another invisible shot. The old man gasped in pain.
The Sheriff then turned to Arx. "Think you can get rid of these foot soldiers? I'm going for the Captain."
Arx was a bit confused at what he had just seen and heard, but he was a persistent fellow and stuck to a plan. So he nodded. "It is no problem," said Arx. Arx removed the giant green shell on his back, held it in front of him like a battering ram, and ran as fast as he could at the soldiers, planning to send them flying.
The Sheriff went straight for the Captain. He jumped in the air, over the regular soldiers and pointed his gun at the Captain. He pulled the trigger. If the Captain didn't somehow dodge the invisible blow, he'd suddenly feel an intense pain in his chest.

Lian paid no attention to Simon even when he told him he should be here. All he did was stare him briefly with his right eye, if he had one. Rather it was just a dead eye and a huge, horrifying scar staring at him. When he finally saw the strange prisoner he had been looking for he realized that his hunch had been correct and following this lead had been a good idea. There he was in chains, Harlow the Virtue of Temperance. "Well met."

When M pointed at the ceiling screaming about Heavenly Virtues several guard members looked up allowing M the opportunity that she sought to sneak away. When the guards finally realized their mistake they weren’t greeted by the sight of M. Instead what they saw was the sight of Arx readying his shield.
Preparing themselves for battle the guards brought their spear tips down and stood fast against Arx. As he drove himself into the mass of guards none were able to withstand the man as he barrelled through. The few that were lucky enough to be towards his backside when he began his assault leapt into the air aiming to bring their blades to Arx’s spine
The Captain was surprised when the sheriff shot the old man. He saw no bullets and yet the old man was in some sort of deep pain if not dead. Without hesitation the Captain drew out his sword and readied himself. Without warning the Sheriff appeared in the air and aimed his weapon at the Captain. Not having time to think the Captain was suddenly struck by what he could only imagine the old man had felt. A sudden intense pain developed in his chest.
He couldn’t breathe nor did he really want to, he was sure it would hurt just to do that. Staring at the sheriff the Captain shuddered a bit.
-----
Harlow counted the footsteps that made their way to him. They were calm and collected. A patient man held footsteps like that, and only one man was patient enough to have footsteps shake you to your core because of their calmness. Glancing up at his new visitor Harlow smiled. “Indeed friend.” Harlow stood again. He glanced at Lian and bowed slightly. “Or perhpas king would be a better greeting?” Standing straight Harlow looked at Lian again. “I assume some others are with you. If so there is no need to stay shackled." Without even blinking Harlow quickly moved his entire body forward the chains hold him breaking, leaving only the cuffs on his arms and legs.
“Now what are they calling you these days?”

M remained silent, listening around the corner to Lian talking to the prisoner in the cell. She nearly gasped, realizing who he was talking to, not expecting to ever see or hear from him again.
Harlow.
Of all the people she had chosen to be in their group, Harlow was the one she feared the most. His ability to restrain people was invaluable. M wasn't ignorant enough to think she could solve all the world's problems through peaceful means, but with Harlow's help, they were able to save many lives.
But his help came at a cost. She forbade him from ever using his ring against her. So far, he seemed to respect her wishes, but she couldn't be absolutely sure he'd keep it. She considered him to be her friend, but to her, it was worse than if he was always carrying a loaded weapon. She feared knowing the truth about herself more than death.
“Now what are they calling you these days?”
Impatient, dumb, meanie, M thought to herself. She still hadn't gotten over her annoyance with Lian.
Hearing the commotion upstairs, the leader of the Virtues went to sneak away and run back to Arx. She wanted to know how Lian knew Harlow was in the prison and why he didn't tell them. She had forgotten how hard it was to deal with the Virtue of Patience, but knew it would be even harder if he found out she was spying on him.
M couldn't move too quickly without being heard so there was a chance they could see her if they ran. She trusted that Lian wouldn't betray his title again. It was only a matter of time before she made it back to Arx and the sheriff.

"Divine Shield," said Arx, and suddenly the shell he held morphed into a sphere, covering his entire body. If the soldiers continued with their attack, they would find it would be extremely difficult, if not impossible to scratch the shell.
Of course, there was a downside. Arx couldn't see anything outside.
The Sheriff landed in front of the Captain after his jump shot. He gave the Captain a terribly cold look. "This town... who really needs it? You know the real reason I'm here, right? It's the only reason I moved here. The only reason I became your Sheriff. And now that the Seven Virtues just so happened to come by, I thought it a perfect time to finally act."
The Sheriff pointed the gun at the Captain again and gave off another devastating shot.
Without waiting around to see the results, the Sheriff then began to scour the Captain's desk, pulling out drawers throwing them across the room. Finally, he found what he was looking for.
He picked up a small vial of bright red liquid capped with a cork. The Sheriff swished it around inside the vial, and then pulled the cork off the top.
"This new generation I'm hearing so much about," muttered the Sheriff, his eyes growing wide. "Let's find out what it is all about!"
And then he went to drink it.
---
Though Simon yelled at Lian to leave, Lian continued to the prison cell anyway. So, Simon followed, keeping his distance. He stood behind a doorway as he listened to Harlow and Lian.
"They're both.... Virtues!?" But when he heard the chains break, he ran as fast as he could back down the hall, to where his father's office was. He had to tell him. He had to warn him. If they had virtues on their hands, they had to be prepared for a serious battle, one that he did not really want a part in.
But, if that Lian was one of the Virtues, then the other two who came to town with him might be as well. Four in one place. He hoped he could make it to his father in time.

Lian smiled when Harlow called him a king. He had achieved a lot in his life, from a poor farmer's son he had become a noble and a general back in his home land and now here he was one of seven legendary knights, but he never made it far enough to become a royalty. He still had time if he wanted to though. He had all the time in the world after all. ”Hmm? Thou art correct. I hath nae cometh here by myself.” Lian did not know how Harlow could figure that out. Maybe he was just guessing or maybe he truly had a way to know it. Either way it made a little difference right now. ”However nae everyone hath come here.” When asked about what Harlow should call Lian he was quiet for a moment and after a few seconds answered. He spoke very quiet, as if he wanted to make sure no one else, but Harlow, heard him. ”What I shall be knoweth as dependeth on the man who asketh. For those thath deserveth to knoweth it my name isth Lian and for others my name isth something else. Lately it hath been Ylin.” As usual Lian did not give a straight answer and instead just hoped that Harlow understood what he meant. ”For what purpose did thou rot in this wretched place when thou couldth just hath broken thy chains, as thou now did, and walked out?” As the Virtue of Patience Lian could have sat there in prison like Harlow had, but only if he had a reason to do so and so he expected Harlow to have some reason for this as well. ”I pondereth that we shouldth go seeth the others. They hath gone to meeth the leader of this wretched place. Dost thou knoweth where his room may be?”

Harlow laughed slightly as Lian gave his answer. He then glanced down at the shackles and thought a bit. “Lian friend I knew you all would come here at some point and if you heard of someone that matched my description you would come here. I also stayed because I felt much sin from this town. Though a major cluster of it was located elsewhere I ended up here due to a misunderstanding. Even though there is much sin here as well…To be honest it’s almost like more sin has come.”
At Lian’s question Harlow pointed after Simon. “We follow him. It’s where he’s going and where she,” Harlow said adjusting his finger to point at M. “Is coming from.”

The leader of the Virtues frowned terribly when Lian and Harlow caught up to her. She glared at them, even though she was the one spying on them, not the other way around.
"You didn't see anything!" M shouted as she began to sprint away from them.
Hearing loud noises, she dashed through the prison, sneaking and slipping past anyone who got into her way. She saw the commotion near the Captain's room and stood behind Arx's impenetrable defense.
Seeing the sheriff take hold of a vial, she initially thought he was confiscating it. She soon despaired when he took off the cork. She didn't hear his initial confession and her ignorance shined through her desperate plea.
"Hey! Stop it! If you want to help this town, drinking that stuff isn't going to help!"
Grasping at the cord that held her mask to her backpack, she knew to be nervous about something, but she didn't know what. She didn't understand what the red liquid was, but she could feel an immense power emanating from it.
"What would your grandfather think of you?"

When Arx heard the commotion outside his shell, he opened it up to see just what exactly was going on. To his surprise, he saw M was back, the Captain on the ground, and the Sheriff with a vial of red liquid, a liquid he knew too well.
"Just what are you doing?" he added to M's message.
The Sheriff paused before drinking, hearing out M. When she was finished, he gave a big smile. "What would my grandfather think? Haha, what a good question, M. I know exactly what my grandfather would think!"
The Sheriff then downed the red liquid, drinking it all in one quick go.
The Sheriff dropped the vial and it broke upon the ground. A terrible, deep groan escaped his lips. "My grandfather would be proud of me! Do you not know who he was? Oh, you certainly should."
The Sheriff slowly began approaching M and Arx, his arms hanging weakly at his sides. "He was the Great Holy Knight Zaratras, the one you Seven Virtues killed! He was a great man! A hero amongst the entire world! And then one day, ten years ago, when I was just a boy, I came home and he was dead! DEAD!"
Then, the Virtues present, along with the old man and the Captain, would witness something very strange and frightening. Slowly, huge bulges would begin to form on Sheriffs body, like massive, vibrating tumors. Small holes would open at the end of the tumors, spilling forth deep red blood onto the ground. The hole then grew teeth and opened wide, screaming.
"I will--," muttered the Sheriff, his body being overcome by the huge mouths. "I will... have revenge... for Zaratras..."
And he said no more.
The Sheriff was gone and in its place was a toppling, huge creature composed mainly of giant, gaping, sreaming mouths set on a thin, small legs. It screamed as loudly as it could, so loud that all the windows in the prison broke.
Arx looked dumbfounded. He took a step back, his hands shaking. It brought back memories of his daughter. Could this really be true? Could this be happening?
"M," he muttered. "You're the leader here... what do we do?"
---
Simon had watched the entire thing in silence. When the Sheriff transformed, he ran as fast as he could to the Captain.
"Father, he drank the demon blood! We have to get you out of here!" He went to pick up his father and try to help him walk out of the room before it was too late.
