Yes I know the season is over but I can't believe i freaking forgot to make a thread lol. the chart I marathoned all of Rokka No Yuusha yesterday, twas a great series, season 2 or else Japan. completed Monster Musume and the little short anime Danchigai. Monster Musume is such a stupid concept but it's too funny to care. one episode away from completing Jitsu wa Watashi Wa (Actually I Am...) hope to marathon at least one more show before Fall 2015 starts.

Alright. I didn't watch many shows this season. In fact, I only watched two. Here's my full reviews for both.
Gangsta I chose this show mostly blindly, without knowing too much about it beforehand. I'm happy to say that I was pleasantly surprised, and then some. This is a cool, mature series, with a really distinct atmosphere, that I found to be compelling pretty much all the way through. The style and overall tone reminds me a lot of those crime drama on HBO, only with superpowers, high-intensity action choreography, and the sort of wacky cast that one might expect from anime. It's these characters that I found to be especially memorable, and while many of them were kind of forgettable, or fell into established archetypes that I've seen too many times, the vast majority of them were incredibly likeable, and kept the energy high through even the bleakest moments of the show. By far the best aspect of this cast, and the series as a whole, came from the two main characters, Nicolas and Worick. Worick, despite his shady dealings, is by far the most believably human character I've seen in anime this year, and I found to be really easy to emphasize with him, letting him very much form the heart of the ensemble. Meanwhile, making Nicolas deaf was an incredibly strong choice on the part of the creators, and gives a dimension to the relationship between the leads that would not be possible otherwise. This aspect of his characterization will probably lead to him getting compared with a main character in another manga, A Silent Voice, though it's worth saying that, whereas in A Silent Voice deafness was used as a major driving force in the plot, in Gangsta it's just another facet of Nicolas' character, and not even the most important one at that. Representation like this, when done so well, makes it seem easy, and might even be used as an example to show how adding such dimension can greatly enhance a storyline. Granted, the story does have a couple of flaws. The backgrounds are more than a little lackluster, a huge issue when most of the story seems to take place within the scope of a few blocks, and the animation shows how much the studio was suffering at the time it was made. Most glaringly, it ends on a cliffhanger, that we know due to Manglobe's unfortunate end can never be resolved now. Still, for a final effort for the great studio, they could have done much worse. Gangsta tackles heavy subject matter that most anime would shy away from, and handles them with class, while never losing Manglobe's sense of flair.
School-Live! Wow~! What a fun, cute, series! I love how School-Live tells an effective (and adorable) story about all the highs and lows that come from living at school! The characters, though there aren't a whole lot, are all so great! Rii-san is best girl~! But what I like best is the plot, which is just oh-so-lovely! I really felt like the girl's emotions were captured perfectly by the writers, which is kinda tough to do considering the emotions and circumstances. Now, there may have been one too many bits of filler, and I suppose some moments might have pressed being kawaii a little too much, but when it got good, oh man you guys, it got really really good! Even though a lot of the story was predictable, I still enjoyed watching how the various cute fun adventures of these high-school girls got to play out! This was helped a whole lot by all the little details, which are super fun for anyone to try and find for themselves! And, as to be expected from a show like this, School-Live did especially well with all the feels! Lerche did a wonderful job at capturing just the right emotion for every possible moment, using all the tools at their disposal! The music, I thought, was particularly well done, and totally got to me when it counted! I gotta hand it to Masaomi Ando-chan, I can tell a talented director worked on this one! If there's one sad thing about this show, though, it's the ending. I just thought it didn't live up to how good the rest of the episodes are, y'know? Still, I had a lot of fun with School-Live! If you're reading this, and haven't seen it yet, boy I hope you do too~
That's all for now! Onwards, to fall!
