I like bad endings where bad endings are due.
For a series like AoT, in which the first chapter is spent solely on establishing that life sucks, I can accept a bad ending. Honestly, it could have been a great ending depending on his original plans. The only thing I'm worried about is the reason he changed the ending. Hajime's disconnect from society is what gave us a great female cast and and outstanding story. I'd hate to see the series drift toward an ending that satisfies every reader, versus an ending that satisfies the story.
Already we had the shit alterations in the first season's final episode with Super Saiyan Eren and emotional Mikasa. I hope the manga doesn't get the same treatment.
Again, as far as bad endings go, their good when it's appropriate. SLIGHT SPOILERS FOR HUNGER GAMES, but people wanted a Harry Potter-esque ending with that series. What we got was an anti-climatic finish and an honest look at the effects of war on a society and on a person. I personally know people who hate the last book because it didn't have an absolutely happy ending. But what do people expect? I'm tired of fairy tale endings. Shonen is shonen but AoT isn't your typical shonen and I hope it doesn't stoop to society's expectations.
I'm personally hoping for a neutral end, one in which some, even main, characters die but it ultimately changes the world and paves the road for a better tomorrow.

I don't understand how just because he may change the end so that Eren and co win would suddenly make the manga suck ass. I'm so sick of seeing everyone on every forum say that. Which is why I'm no longer reading Titan until he's finished cause I fear this stupid backlash will have him keep his original ending and kill everyone and I'm not interested in that kind of series.
There's a big difference between a bad end and a sad end.
bad end: Titans kill Eren and the scouting legion, break down the walls and wipe out humanity. apparently the ending he was going to do. bullshit end imo.
sad end: Eren and co sacrifice there lives to wipe out the titans and give humanity a future. much better and more acceptable ending imo if we cant have a happy end for Eren and the scouting legion.
wtf is the point of the bad end. why should I even bother reading the series if there is no hope for the heroes to win. I've invested time into these characters tos ee them accomplish something not hav ethem fail miserably or finish where they started in the case of the people still being stuck behind the bloody wall and Eren and co die. the series woudl literally have went nowhere if that were to happen.
One piece was supposed to be 5 years long and yet here we are 15 years later and the it's the greatest manga ever written imo, stop jumping to conclusions about now the manga will suddenly "suck".

I wasn't ever arguing that everyone should die in the end and the heroes lose. Rather I said that an author should never let others, especially fans, to influence their work. T That never works and always just ruins whatever series does that. It would run longer than intended with stories that go absolutely nowhere and have nothing to with the main plot line and focuses only on the most popular characters that and so on just to sell as many volumes and merchandise as possible. Basically it would become the next Naruto.

"Even tough you have plenty of time..." Stopped reading. As for the changed ending, I hope he sticks with what he thinks is the right ending, not what everyone thinks. The only reason he should change the ending is if he thought of a better idea, not because his fans expect a certain outcome.

sorry Mise it wasn't directed entirely at you.
it's just my general frustration with everyone jumping the gun and assuming he's going to drastically change the story. and as long as its well written then who cares.
All it sounds like to me is that he wants to change the ending from one where Eren and co lose to one where they win or at least save humanity. so assuming he finishes the series at volume 20 like he says he will then only that final volume will probably have anything changed from his original intent. and it wont be overextended like Bleach and Naruto.
Was really stupid of him to even mention it, he shoulda just done it and no one woulda noticed the difference but at the same time I'm glad he did cause I woulda been greatly pissed off and disappointed to read this from start to finish and find out that Eren loses and humanity is either still stuck behind the wall (Back where we started) or wiped out.
But now that all this backlash could influence him into keeping his bad ending I'm out cause I don't wanna read it.

He may be changing it from where a happy to sad ending, or a sad to happy, we really don't know.
I'm guessing that it'll be a bit of both. I think that Mikasa is supposed to die, and it was hinted at in the very first scene of the first chapter. So perhaps the change is for Mikasa to live?
I really am not sure

Read Mangastream's version. That was a great chapter. First half was a bit slow, but the flashback of Historia was amazing.
I really have no idea what makes her so special. Can she do something related to the Titans? Can she create them, or turn them back to humans..? MYSTERIES.
