The sky was especially clear that day. No flying around clouds that day for Izzy. Those stupid sky ponies always had it in for him ever since they ran through that storm cloud. It went against the Quality Assurance safety policies. It was the sky, after all. The sky was full of dangers and treachery. He finally made it fifty miles outside of Ponyville, and pointed toward the city.
Icarus began to flap his wondrous wings and great winds came about. On such a hot day, the cool breeze was always welcome, he knew. He was closer to the sun than any pony should be, but he didn't break a sweat. Such a job seemed to be tailor made for such a pegasus as Icarus.
Another great seven hour day for Izzy. His wings were tired, and he decided that today he would visit the library. He had a pseudo-part time job of storyteller in the town square, and he needed a good bit of inspiration to tell the fillies and colts that loved to listen in.
Icarus flew to the front door and entered. Such a large assortment of scripture from all over Equestria, where was he to start? He decided to start in the fiction section.
A tail of two Fillies caught his eye, but it seemed a little too recognizable to the story-going public. He needed something with a little more adventure. Something with magic, swords, and dragons, perhaps. Eh, it was a paradox of genres. Too much to choose from, but it wasn't such a bad problem to have, he supposed.
"Ummm Miss Prose? You wouldn't happen to-" He was interrupted by a gigantic shush from all of the ponies who were trying to read. "Sorry..." He was a little annoyed.

Not too far from Icarus, a dark blue pony sifted through the fiction section, her nose quite literally in the books. She seemed to have a hard time seeing anything, though her eyes looked clouded over so it wasn't too hard to assume she was blind. Why a blind pony was in a library was anybody's guess.
"Nope, nope, nope, read it, hated it, loooooved it but not in the mood, that one's too new, that one's too old..." Midnight mumbled something different as she passed over each book, apparently having an opinion on every single one.
"Miss Prose? You wouldn't happen to--" Midnight was possibly the only pony in the library that didn't shush the loud pegasus next to her. Instead, she trotted up next to him and leaned in to see the books he was looking at. Up close it turned out that she was not actually an earth pony, but a unicorn with a broken horn.
"Ooooh, looking for something good to read dude?" Midnight whispered at the red pegasus, "so am I. Here, lemme see...A Tail of two Fillies? No no no, that's too common...A Clockwork Horse is probably too intense for you...oh! This one here! Pride and Prejudice and Ponies!"
Midnight pulled out the book...and promptly set it on the floor.
"That one's for me. OK, now, for you..." Midnight stuck her nose back into the shelf of books and inspected each one closely, letting off a long string of "no"s to each one.

Cotton Feather entered the back of the second Ponyville library in order to avoid any unsuspecting fans to attack her. She wore a pink saddle bag and equally pink collar with a metallic speaker attached to it. She crawled around shelves to try and reach a certain section of books. She had memorized this dance after many times of trying to avoid her fans. The second library was one of her least favorite places, though she had to give her avid reader fans credit. At least they knew who she was.
Many ponies immediately assumed from her name, Cotton, and color of her skin and mane that she worked at Sugarcube Corner or some other equivalent. Sugarcube Corner? Her mother was a candy maker and while she loved her, she did not want to share in any of her talent.
Cotton wanted to write, but most importantly, she wanted to be left alone. Unlike the characters in her books who shared beautiful, passionate relationships, she had none. She did not care for friendship, simply because she found her work to be more enjoyable. She loved creating new characters more than any other part of her writing.
So when Cotton finally caught the adventure section in her eyes and saw the unicorn Midnight Skychaser, it was destiny.
That broken horn. The directional cutie mark. That look in her eyes that spelled ADVENTURE.
Cotton had to talk to her. She had to interview her. She was baffled she had never seen the pony before. She would make the perfect new character. There was only one problem.
Icarus Libra was there. She couldn't stand that pony. The two had never met before so she was unfair to judge him but she still didn't like him. She heard the notorious weather master was an avid story teller. In essence, he was her only competition.
Her dream come true and absolute nightmare were standing right next to each other. How was she to get to Midnight Skychaser without bumping into Icarus Libra? It was quite the predicament.
Cotton bit onto a random book on the shelf and placed it in front of her on a table. She sat down and peeked her eyes over her. She immediately began to mumble into the speaker on the collar of her neck in a hushed whisper.
"Unicorn: unknown name. Dull blue color. Bold blue mane. Purple inflections. Bold, passionate purple eyes. Broken horn. Most important. Broken horn. Directional cutie mark. Map maker? Adventurer? ..."
Cotton tried to wait and see if one of them would leave so she could pursue Midnight Skychaser later.

A library. Out of all places in Ponyville, a library was the place Piston Mustang least expected to end up in on that particular day. She hardly ever read, and when she did, she didn't read for very long. But alas, the day was hot, and she needed a place to stop and cool down. Purely on impulse, she decided the library would be a nice change of pace, and she was in the area anyways, so she decided to stop by for a few minutes and rest for a while.
The cool, indoor air came as an immediate relief to her, and the place didn't look too terrible, upon close inspection. It wouldn't have been a bad place to stick around, if it wasn't for the cold glares of several ponies the minute she set foot in the building. No matter what she did, somepony always seemed to have an eye on her, as if she'd explode at any time. But that was understandable. At times, Piston tended to forget that she had a rather rotten reputation in the town. Normally she tried to be a bit more low-profile when it came to heavily populated locations, but it wasn't her fault if she slipped up sometimes. It was simply the price she had to pay for being the "Ragin' Scourge of Ponyville." Still, bothersome though the stares were, she was good at ignoring them. In fact, she didn't care at all what those stuck-up reading type ponies thought of her, but having her every move watched was still a little uncomfortable. Just a little, though.
The quietness, on the other hand, was a totally different matter altogether. The silence was terrible. Why anypony would prefer to spend long periods of time in a place where any sort of noise was taboo, she would never understand. It was like everyone was depressed or something, and nopony wanted to talk to each other or else they would become too sad and start crying all over the books or something. Piston needed noise. She needed music. It was a shame she hadn't thought to take her guitar along, then she would've livened the place up a bit.
"And that's why I've got a reputation, I guess." she muttered to herself.
Then, as she was aimlessly wandering about, a certain word caught her eye. Adventure. A concept she had no idea could be found in a place where everyone quietly studied by themselves all day. She wasn't too keen on actually seeking out a book, but she had to admit, she was a bit curious. If only there wasn't already a group of ponies clustered around the area. Piston got a sinking feeling that if she tried coming too close to that section, she would immediately be greeted with hateful looks and, if one of them was brave enough, she might even have been asked to leave. She wasn't all too sure if she wanted to go through all that. But nevertheless, Piston Mustang never, never, let that kind of thing stop her. So she proudly marched straight up to the adventure section and... quietly looked around.
But only for a little bit. Until I get bored. Or kicked out. Probably both. Uh-huh, definitely both. Yeah.

Demure Grayback had been sitting in the library for a while now, just reading a certain book he had picked up, a love story. His excellent poker face and general lack of body movement implied that he was reading some sort of documentary or textbook, but he was really in his own little world right now. He had intended to just see a couple of pages to see if it was any good and if it was he would rent it; he was too into it at this point to even leave the table though. The only way he remembered that he was surrounded by people was when there was a large "Shush!".
Demure's head jerked up and he looked around as if he had suddenly awoken from some dream. He saw the red stallion that people were glaring at. He didn't know who the pegasus was...uh....he did the gust thing, right? He tried to remember, but his attention immediately went to the pony standing next to the Pegasus. He didn't recognize her at all! He sat up straight and put his book to face level as he stole a few quick glances here and there. She seemed like the adventurous type, with that short mane and compass cutie mark and that - broken horn? His eyes widened a bit. What had happened? And those eyes...She looked like she had seen better days. Still, she was rather pretty, in her own way. Her smile was probably heart-melting, and she looked like she would smile a lot-
Demure shook his head. What was he thinking? She was probably the adventurous type, so she probably already met some sort of adventuring stallion buddy or something. Or maybe...Well, she didn't seem like the romantic type.
He was about to go back to reading his book when some other pony caught his eye. Was that...was it? The famous author, that pony who wrote so many of his favorite books, was that...wait, no. All he could see was her mane, and it wasn't as if she was the only one with such a mane or something similar to it. No, it was probably some other pony; why would the famous Cotton Feather show up here?
At this point Demure started to wonder if he would ever actually get back to reading his book. Another pony caught his attention, but unlike the others he definitely knew who this one was: Piston Mustang, the infamous troublemaker of Ponyville. He looked at her for a bit, but he certainly didn't glare at her like everypony else. She was...er. Demure thought to himself, looking for the word. She was...pretty, in her own way. She had her own type of charm. He had never heard her music but maybe he could, sometime. Yeah, he would go up to her and ask-
Demure's head slammed onto the table, causing the second big shush in the library that day.

Midnight grew increasingly impatient as she sifted through the bookshelf. Her "no"s and "nuh-uh"s grew increasingly loud and hostile. Just as she looked as if she was going to scream out something that would most assuredly get her shushed, if not kicked out of the library for life, she suddenly stopped. Her gaze focused on a particular book. This was the one. Her eyes practically sparkled as she marvelled at how absolutely perfect this book was for the red pegasus.
"The Tails of Robin Hoof and His Herd of Sunny Stallions. YES. This is the one!" Midnight pulled the book out and held it in Icarus' face. She attempted to speak about the book's great qualities, but given that the book was in her mouth, it mostly just came out as incomprehensible gibberish.
Midnight jerked her head around when she heard a sudden "THUD." Sudden noises were always caused by something interesting happening. Well, usually anyway. This time it seemed that a very pale pony just felt a sudden need for head trauma. Still, leave no stone unturned...or pony unbothered. Midnight tossed the book at Icarus and trotted off to see what the pale pony's problem was. She sat down next to the young stallion that she assumed was a pony. She was just so pretty and not stallionly at all. Midnight did not speak immediately, but instead attempted to peak over the pony's head at what she was reading. This was a bad idea, as she almost immediately blushed just from reading two sentences. Midnight really got into her books, and romantic stories were her super weakness.
Midnight looked away from the book and quickly regained her composure. She remained stretched slightly too far into the pony's personal space, however.
"Hey, something bothering you dudette?" Midnight whispered to Demure.

Robin Hoof and his Herd of Sunny Stallions, yeah it was a very well known tale, but it was so easy to relate to. Suddenly the book collided with his face and he fell backward. "Ow..."
He sat across from Demure at the table and opened the book. Robin Hoof and Little John walkin' through the forest, dodging all the guards and trying to get away. Though they were in trouble they had such a good time. He was famous among the citizens of Trottingham for robbing from the rich and giving to the poor, less fortunate ponies. Besides his excellent swordsmanship, he was a magnificent archer, being able to shoot an arrow to pin a fly to a tree, and not kill it.
This was good stuff, it was so simple to read and told the story so well. He could definitely work with this. Such a easily told tale it was, he was surprised he didn't think of it before.
"Yeah, I think I can-"
There was a gigantic boom that echoed throughout the entire library. All eyes turned toward the door. There stood the worst, most deenergized frown anyone had ever seen. The unicorn that burst through the door now walked into the library, not a sound she made after that. The only sound they could hear was her hooves clopping across the floor.
Her coat and mane were two different shades of gray, as if they were once a different color but were now as lifeless as grass in the winter time.
"Who needs love..." she said as she went up to the counter and glared a beaming, horrible gaze at Miss Prose. "I've had ENOUGH!" She beamed a huge light from her horn, and there came a lifting of all the books within twenty feet of her. With an outburst, the books went absolutely everywhere.
Izzy was pelted by one or two paperbacks.
"Whew... Thank heavens it wasn't a har-" Then a gigantic dictionary struck him down. He shook his head and looked on at the unicorn who was creating such havoc. What was she doing?
Any pony who came close to her was abolished with a whole collection of big books smashing into their snouts.
"You'll pay for this!" She shouted, causing books to scatter everywhere, fly at everything. Statuettes were shattered, windows were blown down, and entire bookshelves began to topple over. Without a second to lose, Icarus took flight across the library and quickly tackled a small Foal girl away from one of the toppling shelves.
Then, it only got worse.

Black Beauty was bent in half.
Cotton bit her lip and stumbled back when the unicorn made her charge. Her heart was racing. She started to run and flee with the other ponies when she noticed one of her novels' cover now completely ruined.
Her stories. She had to stay for the stories.
It wasn't just for the books themselves. They could always be reprinted. This strange, grayscale unicorn could serve as an inspiration for something more.
In her peripheral vision, she saw Icarus Libra swoop down to save a young filly. It got her thinking. A scene played out in her head, involving several of the ponies there. She converted the story in her head to action: shouting, hopefully, above the strange unicorn.
"Pegasus Icarus Libra!" she called out, forgetting her distrust for the time being. "Fly to see if there are others who need help!"
Cotton took the role of a faux leader, trying to gain control of this situation. She knew many of the ponies around her, though she had spoken with none of them before. She believed they would have to listen to her to resolve the situation. She could only hope they would.
"Earth Pony Piston Mustang! Use your strength to hold down the rogue unicorn if possible."
The punk of Ponyville was a large pony and clearly capable of packing a punch. If she could get past the unicorn's magic, she might have a chance.
"Unicorn..."
Cotton realized she didn't know the name of the unicorn with the broken horn. She wanted her to hold the rogue unicorn down with magic, but her horn was likely useless.
"Just... um... help Piston Mustang or Icarus Libra, if you would," she said with an embarrassed, slight bow.
"Earth Pony Demure Grayback, if you would kindly stand by and help me calm this rogue unicorn down, it would be appreciated."
Demure Grayback had been the subject of a poem of hers entitled "A Smile In Gray." She hoped he did not know but his social demeanor was interesting enough to write on.
Her attention now was on the grayscale unicorn in question. She took a stance nearby her, hoping her earth pony stature would be enough to survive a blast from her horn.
"You have to calm down, ma'am," she said, not recognizing the unicorn because of her new coloring. "Whatever happened to you does not warrant the attack of innocent people. Perhaps if you were to tell us what happened that lead up to this point, we could help you."
Cotton bit her lip, not sure if she should have really been risking her life like this.

Demure sat up with a start and almost fell out of his chair when the adventurous unicorn suddenly spoke to him almost right in his face.
"Uwah!" His exclamation of surprise wasn't that loud, but showed that his voice was soft and quiet. He righted himself up and looked back and forth from the floor to the pony next to him, trying hard to hide his blush. "Uh, no, I uh..." He looked at his book and closed it out of embarrassment, blushing even more. "Uh, no, i'm sorry. Nothing's bothering me, i'm fine. I...i'm sorry if I disturbed you, I shouldn't have...slammed...my head like...that." He was obviously very nervous and it sounded as if he felt guilty for the noise he had made. Of course, there was nothing wrong with his book: It was your average romantic fare, nothing that would garner an "Oh my". It was just..
"Um, no, so, nothing is wrong, but...thank you for checking." He looked at the unicorn because it was polite, but he tried to not look into her eyes, she might take that the wrong way, but if he looked the other way or looked in her direction but not at her face then she might take that the wrong way. As a result, his eyes were darting back and forth, trying not to awkwardly look deep into the unicorn's pretty, pupil-less eyes...
Wait.
"Um...Did you call me a -"
The door burst open at that moment and Demure jumped out of his chair, his nerves already bundled up and tense. He did not know the unicorn who had made the noise, but then again he did not really "know" anyone here. The unicorn seemed very unhappy; Demure paid close attention to her, ignoring the pony next to him for the moment. The sad unicorn was...something was off about her. Her lack of color was part of it; unlike he and his natural appearance, this pony seemed to have had the color sucked out of her. Her frown was... Demure frowned a little as well, a concerned look in his eyes. His concern changed to surprise rather quickly though once the unicorn started throwing everything around.
"What?! W-what's going on?" He looked around frantically for a bit, but soon started picking up the books and anything else that was falling off, as well as helping up anypony who had fallen down in the chaos; "Are you okay"s and "here, let me help"s came out of his mouth naturally as he did this.
When Cotton - it was Cotton, wow, she was even more beautiful in person - asked for his help, his jaw dropped. "M-me?" She knew his name! The beautiful Cotton Feather knew his name and was personally asking for his help! He couldn't believe it! He, he felt so warm inside, he, he felt a book slap him in the face.
"Uh, yes, of course." He strode up to Cotton's side, maybe being a centimeter closer than one might usually be. He felt a bit entitled to it: she knew him right? He looked at the distressed unicorn, concern going back into his eyes.
"Its okay, its okay. I don't know what happened to you, but you can stop hurting people. You don't want to hurt anyone, do you?" He was moving towards the unicorn, ignoring or avoiding the books that flew towards him, but paying mind to the paper tempest he was approaching. "I know that you're sad. I know that you're angry. But please don't hurt these people. Why is it that you're angry? You can tell me. I'll listen." His voice was calm and caring, like that of a patient mother, and was much more confident than the voice he had used when stammering to the adventurous pony. He had not stopped staring at the pony the entire time, and the concern in his eyes never faded.
He did not show any pity or confusion in his face or voice; he only showed that he cared.

As chaos erupted in the library, Piston Mustang kept relatively calm. She was used to danger, so this intruder wasn't all that frightening to her. In fact, she was more annoyed than anything else. Not annoyed that there was a rampaging unicorn in the building, but annoyed that this angry pony went and made a ruckus before she could get around to it herself. Either way, it wasn't a good kind of ruckus. Right from the start, Piston could tell it was absolutely nothing more than sulking in the highest degree. And that was bothersome. Either way, she didn't think most of the innocent ponies in there could fend for themselves against such a threat, so she decided she would help. It would solve her boredom, at least.
"Earth Pony Piston Mustang! Use your strength to hold down the rogue unicorn if possible."
Piston blinked at Cotton, not recognizing who she was. As Piston hardly did any reading, she simply wasn't aware of the popular authors, so the fame of the pony nearby was completely lost on her. To Piston, it was just strange that somepony so frail-looking would take charge like that.
"Who the hay do you think you are, throwing around orders like that? What makes you think you can tell me what to do?" Piston sighed, and shook her head wearily. Cotton was lucky that Piston had the same plan of action anyways. "I'm gonna have a word with you later, you got that? After we deal with this."
With that, Piston raced forward, putting her legs to good use, and nimbly dodging books as she went. Any attempts from Cotton and Demure to try and calm down the unicorn were probably lost as she attacked with all her strength, intent on knocking out the rogue pony. If nothing else, she could at least demonstrate to the other ponies just how she got her infamous status in the first place.

Before Cotton had even given instructions to the various ponies in the library, Midnight was already dodging the books flying at her with the prowess of someone who was used to having lots of objects thrown at her. She even managed to catch a few, the ones she thought were the most important for whatever reason, or the ones that were heading straight for one of the many ponies in distress.
"Unicorn..."
Did the cotton candy colored pony mean her? Midnight turned around to face the pony that looked eerily familiar, like Midnight should know who she was somewhere in the back of her mind. Now was not the time to dwell on who knew what ponies, however. This was a crisis. This was adventure! This was what she was born for!
"Just... um... help Piston Mustang or Icarus Libra, if you would,"
"Yessir Miss Cotton-Candy-Colored-Pony-Ma'am-Sir!" Midnight saluted Cotton with a casual hoof to her forehead. She quickly went to work doing exactly what she had been doing before, but with more gusto and a bit more focus on actually saving ponies instead of books.
It wasn't too long before Midnight realized, however, that catching books with her hooves and mouth wasn't going to be enough. She'd held off on using her horn since it had broken. The doctors said it would take time to heal and using magic would only make things worse. They had told her she needed to rest, that she should stop traveling. She promised to abide by the first so long as she could ignore the second, but now it seemed like she would just have to break that promise anyway.
Midnight stopped her prancing around catching and avoiding books and stood firm. She focused very hard, and her broken horn began to glow ever so slightly. One or two books flying past her were stopped in midair and held there. Then a few more. And a few more. The radius of hovering books was steadily increasing and it almost looked like Midnight was going to be just fine.
Then a wave of immense pain washed through her head. She quivered in place but held her ground. A few hovering books dropped to the floor and were quickly replaced by other books being flung about. Another surge of pain. She bent down onto her forelegs but kept her focus as best she could. A third wave of pain and she was sitting on the floor with her eyes tightly shut in deep concentration.
"If everyone could please head to the nearest exit in a calm and timely fashion, that'd be just wonderful..." Midnight spoke to the innocent ponies that had been caught in the fray. She didn't know how much longer she could protect them and keep the books steady.
The fourth wave was the straw that broke the camel's back. Her horn surged with untamed energy, then there was a bright light and a loud "BANG" and Midnight was blown back into the children's section of the library. The books her magic had been holding dropped to the floor. Luckily she landed on the bean bag chairs, though it didn't stop her head from spinning. She almost thought she heard chirping birds somewhere.
"Woooo...that last one is a doozy..." Midnight shook off the mild concussion she probably had and righted herself again. There were still ponies in need. She couldn't let a little thing like a potentially life-threatening injury keep her down. She had to try again. All she needed was a different strategy...
Midnight focused once more and her broken horn began to glow. The light was unsteady and blinked off and on, but it was still there. This time she focused not on the books, but the unicorn flinging them about. She tried to create a bubble of calm and peaceful energy around the unicorn. Something to slow her down, something to keep her from harming anyone, something to keep her distracted while the very angry pony behind her pounced for the ultimate take-down tackle.
Another surge of pain washed through her head. She knew where this was going. She didn't have much more time. She just hoped the others could take her down quickly.

The unicorn's eyes filled with tears as she cringed at their words. She turned her gaze to the two ponies who were trying to console her. She shook her head as she closed her eyes and tears began to flow free from her eyes.
"Nothing matters! I loved him! Nothing will ever be the same again!" Just as she readied to power her magic to the very max, there came a blaring, overwhelming tranquility that suddenly made her eyes bobble, tears still roaming free down from her eyes.
It wasn't long before Piston Mustang tackled her from behind, interrupting her chaotic casting. This is when she openly began to cry. Her sobbing became uncontrollable as she did not struggle in the least. She merely lied down beneath Piston and bawled immensely.
"Why did he have to go?!" She sobbed. "Why!!!"
The royal guards arrived, late as usual. They came in, and the library was a shambles. The mysterious unicorn on the floor had made no move to retaliate as they approached. The royal guard stepped up toward Piston Mustang and stood several inches taller than her.
"Stand aside, ma'am." With or without her cooperation, they began to carry the unicorn off.
Icarus watched it all as it was in motion. He checked to see if the unicorn foal he helped during the incident. Then he looked to Midnight, and trotted over toward her.
"Hey, are you alright?" If she needed something to lean on, he extended his wing to help her balance. "What was all that about? Did you know her?" Izzy looked toward where they were carrying her off. "We may have to go answer some questions."
Icarus wasn't really looking forward to being questioned, if it was called for in this situation. There was a chance, though that it was an isolated incident. No ponies were hurt, it seemed, though the property damage may have been palpable enough to demand some sort of action.
Then he looked to the others as they were picking up the pieces and getting over the initial shock of the whole thing. This may require a closer eye.

Piston Mustang groaned as the unicorn went on, in disbelief that she really had to take time out of her day to deal with a barely glorified tantrum. If they weren't in a public place, she probably wouldn't have let the pony get away with just a tackle.
"So what, exactly," she growled, "do you think sulking like a filly will solve? You expect this guy to come rushing back to you because you... threw some books around, and ruined somepony's day? Move on, sister, you don't need some stallion around all the time, do you? C'mon, I got better things to do."
The guards couldn't have come soon enough. At the first sight of them, Piston tensed up, becoming instantly more wary. This was out of reflex more than anything else, as usually, for her, an appearance from those soldiers meant only one thing.
"Hey, I got nothin' to do with this! It's not what it looks like, I'm telling you! I was trying to stop it, and you can't prove it was me, so don't touch..." she blinked a few times in shock as the guard told her to stand aside. She honestly couldn't remember the last time she wasn't blamed for any given crisis, whether she was guilty or not. And for the second time that day, somepony gave her orders. This was a very odd day for Piston Mustang.
"Sure thing, sirs, and maybe you can come a bit faster next time this happens, cause the Ragin' Scourge of Ponyville's got an image to maintain, and I can't keep doing this forever. And by the way, you call me ma'am again, and it'll be me you'll have to drag off kicking and screaming, got that? Don't call me ma'am. Ever again. I don't like it. At all."
As the guards left with the unicorn, Piston looked out at all the damage that had been done. Books scattered everywhere, and ponies standing around dumbfounded. That is, except for the ones who stood up and helped out during the crisis. Though one of them tried to tell her what to do, they all showed that they were much braver than the run-of-the-mill ponies, and Piston liked that. If it was possible, she wanted to get to know these strangers a little better. It wouldn't hurt to try talking to them, would it?
"Soo... how about that, huh? Not something you see everyday, right?" she said, chuckling dryly as she addressed the others. "Aaaanyways, you probably have heard of me already, but let me introduce myself. The name's Piston Mustang, I'm a guitarist. Who're you guys? It takes a lot of guts to keep your cool in a situation like that, you know. That's pretty cool."

Midnight's head was spinning and throbbing with pain by the time the unicorn was taken down. She stopped using her broken horn, but the pain and confusion continued. She could see swirly colored dots spinning around in front of her eyes, their movements making her go cross-eyed. Swirly spinny bouncy prancy fancy teensy weensy wibbly wobbly la-de-da-dy dots...
As Icarus approached her, Midnight teetered left and right like a tiny sprig of a tree being blown left and right by the wind. She did not so much lean on Icarus when he offered his wing, as she toppled over onto him and fell to the floor. If she had even heard his questions, it didn't look like she was going to answer any time soon. Despite whatever pain she was still feeling, she had a huge grin and giggled like a little filly. Occasionally she kicked one of her hooves, batting half-heartedly at invisible butterflies and little fairy ponies with great big butterfly wings.
"Did som'min get the number uhda carrrrrridge tha' ran me ofverrr?" Midnight mumbled a somewhat incoherent joke as she attempted to regain her focus. She managed to sit upright on her hooves, which was good enough for now. Her head was still a bit wobbly, but by now it had stopped spinning and the pain was little more than a memory.
She watched the parade of guards escort the unicorn out of the library door. Another battle won, with the help of her band of sunny...did she even know any of these ponies? The cotton candy one looked familiar, and she had technically met the pegasus she just fell on and the pale pony of indeterminate gender, but the tackle-master pony? She had no idea who she--
"...The name's Piston Mustang, I'm a guitarist. Who're you guys? It takes a lot of guts to keep your cool in a situation like that, you know. That's pretty cool."
Well that certainly fixed that! A guitarist with a violent streak, Midnight bet she made some seriously rocking music. She'd have to get her to play later.
Midnight made an attempt to fully stand up. She wasn't about to have a conversation with new ponies while she was sitting down like a lame horse.
"Nice to meetcha Piston! I'm Midnight Skychaser, awesome adventurer extraordinaire. It's my first time here in Ponyville...or this the second? Meh, anyway. I heard this was just a small town, but if it's always this exciting then I think you dudes are gonna need me here for a while."

Cotton Feather sighed. The situation was the craziest situation since her scientist friend blew up half her lab in a freak, cupcake experiment. She was extremely interested in the grayscale unicorn now that she knew of her situation. There was clearly some trama. She noted she had not seen a grayscale pony since Demure Grayback.
The earth pony adjusted her speaker collar and the bags on her back. She looked around, frowning at the devastation caused by this one mishap. She wondered how to prevent this from happening again.
Cotton had known of Piston Mustang by face and rumors about her. She wondered if she could ever use her antics for perhaps a short story.
The pony softly whispered into her collar the name of the broken horned unicorn. “Adventurer” and she had planned on staying for a long time. It was a dream come true. Now, the author had to introduce herself to have a chance to interview her.
“Hello, everypony. I appreciate your help. My name is *COUGH* Cotton Feather *COUGH COUGH*. I’ll be going… eventually. But, for now, I am curious as to what you all think of the situation that happened here.”
Cotton hoped she said her name quiet enough for no one to recognize it. She wanted to wait for the group to part ways so she could eventually get a one on one conversation with Midnight. Her broken horn seemed to have caused her pain in the encounter. It was a great source of inner conflict for a future character she could write. She had to know things from Midnight’s perspective.
