There's been some discussion between Shark, Hito and I about how this One Piece RPG should start. Basically, it comes down to three options we could choose from:
The first is to do a one year (or otherwise) time skip and continue on with the previous RPG. We would keep the same characters (or create new ones) and start a new adventure for them.
The second is start completely over. It would have absolutely nothing to do with any previous RPG that we've done. Older characters can be reused though.
The third is a combination of the two. If people want to start over on their characters or make new ones, they can. And characters can change as well. For example, a character could be a different race or even gender. However, if players wanted to keep established relationships they can do so.
I personally would be in favor of any of these options. I have a personal favorite myself but I want us to decide on this together. Keep in mind that no matter what option we pick, we should keep possible new members in mind. Any option could fit new members with a bit of tweaking. So yeah, discuss.

20 year timeskip, we play the children of our characters.
lol, but seriously, my vote goes to the third option. I like having the option to choose, rather than start from scratch, or forced to pick up where we left off.

I think we should start over fresh, but feel free to use older characters if you want to. That is my opinion

Same here, a somewhat fresh start, but without being forced to start from scratch. Recreated Takai's background and personality somewhat...

I agree. I'm completely changing Mr. Dark's past (hint hint, no disease) and goals in this one, although he will still be the hateful boogeyman you all remember. I would like for Mr. Dark to have at least one established relationship with someone(s), whether that relationship be from past RPs or perhaps from a different backstory to this new RP.

Yeah, my favorite is the third option. I want to bring Kusu back (her personality is too fun to play to let go) but she would be a Devil Fruit user, not bird race as she was before. For the sake of being fair and only using one character, I will not play as Hil but I probably will mention a character like him in Kusu's back story.
But again, if, for example, Hito wanted his new character to have some previous interaction with the new Mr. Dark, that would be perfectly acceptable. And established friendships like Kusu and Takai could be implemented as well, even with the major change in character.

So then I guess the only question is, are we assuming that the Manga Ground RP was more or less cannon, changed to suit the needs of this current RP. As in, it took place, but if someone was making a new character and wanted to have that aspect in their backstory, we can go ahead and assume that the past will have been retconned to include them if they wanted such a thing. Like for example, if someone playing a new character wanted in their past to have been a part of the fall of Regalia, I assume we can just chalk that up as if they were actually there?

I don't know, it seems that everyone is thinking of having a fresh start/mostly clean slate of sorts, myself included.

Well I would imagine at least some stuff would have had to have happened, given that some of the characters will already have known each other at the start, or want to have MG happenings pertain to their backstory.
I know it's not a direct continuation from there, but I also don't think we're just going to pretend none of it happened.

I think its fine to have it happened, but not to let it be a major thing in the next RP.

Yeah that's more or less what I was thinking of, it's just there in the past if characters wish to draw from it.

I know it's not a direct continuation from there, but I also don't think we're just going to pretend none of it happened. None of what happened? Seriously though, I do suppose that some events could be used. I came into the MG late, so I don't know this Regala stuff but I do think that events such as Monster Island could be used for some. Again though, it seems as if it would best if this was, for the most part, a new beginning.

But yeah, what you said is pretty much the same as what Hito said, and what I was thinking, so I think we're all on the same page.

...I was trying to be wry/sarcastic/ironic when I said the what, implying that I had already forgotten what had happened at Mg. I have failed.

I probably should have clarified what I meant by the characters knowing each other. I'll use the Kusu and Takai example again. Let's say Kasou and I agreed we wanted them to know each other. We could say that Kusu and Takai were on a pirate crew and had various adventures together. However, this doesn't mean everything that happened in the MG RP actually happened. It's just that the characters are established friends. They could have memories similar to the ones from the RPG but only on a personal level, like they were on a team together, rather than: "Remember that one time we watched Regala explode."
