So, there's a new disney movie coming out, and hardly anyone is talking about it. I don't even think there is a real english trailer for it out.
The movies looks alright, but I wonder why disney hasn't been advertising a bit more?

Mid November, I believe.
I remember seeing a short trailer for it a few months back, but it had nothing to do with what the movie was about. It was a moose sliding around on the ice. Looked more like a short than a movie back then.

The American advertising for this film is really weird. Like, really weird.
Judging from the trailers we've seen, this could be building up to a really cool, exciting, and imaginative movie, or it could just be another Tangled. It's really just too bad, though, that it seems as though there's not going to be anymore 2D Disney films. I think, if Frozen had followed closer to the standards of earlier Disney classics, it would have the potential to be something great. As of right now? Can't honestly say, but I certainly can say I'm not feeling all that optimistic.

I liked Tangled. More so than The Princess and the Frog and Brave (I know its Pixar and not technically Disney).

Tangled was enjoyable, but apart from that, it was nothing. Certainly not up to the standard set by its earlier film. Say what you will about PatF, at least it made a definite style choice.

At least Tangled was fun and enjoyable.
PatF was not.

Style choice aside, the movie just was not that good.
Tangled was not the greatest animated Disney "Princess" movie, but it was enjoyable.
If I recall, wasn't Frozen originally going to be hand-drawn? I could be wrong, but I want to say when it was first announced they said it would be hand-drawn. Unless I am thinking of another film completely lol.
After actually watching the trailer now, it has me intrigued. But I usually see everything so whatevs.

Again, Tangled was enjoyable, but nothing about it made any sort of impact, or even anything that really earned it its place in the Disney Fairy Tale Musical series.
I actually like PatF better by its own merits, but even recognizing the flaws it did have, and even if I was willing to concede that Tangled was probably the more fun of the two. What was it really about Tangled that was worth remembering? Again, style makes all the difference here, and more than style, it's the choices the creative team made that I really wanna put the focus on. It did its own thing, in an aesthetic and setting that had never been used in Disney movies before. It was a Princess movie, but went out of its way to provide a different take on it. It had the freakin' Shadowman, for crying out loud! Whether the final product stood on it's own or not isn't the issue here. Amongst Disney movies, PatF had definite things that made it stand out, that made it worth remembering.
Tangled, on the other hand? As far as setting and tone goes? Boring, boring, samey, samey, like we were really in need of another Nondescript European Kingdom type movie. It took the most conventional aspects of both the early films and the movies of the Disney Renaissance, except not being at all groundbreaking like Snow White and Sleeping Beauty were, and completely without the storytelling or artistic quality of, say, Beauty and the Beast. Don't even get me started on the songs, that were without any sort of life or distinctness whatsoever. Heck, it wasn't even distinctly Disney. If you took any individual moment from the film, except, I guess, the musical numbers, and just showed it on its own, it could very easily be mistaken for something from a Shrek sequel. And Shrek was SUPPOSED to be humorously stereotypical. Yes, there were good things about it, quite a few, actually, but nothing that's honestly worth talking about when analyzing it as part of the Disney canon. All in all, it was simply decent. It met the expectation, and that was all it did. And that's what I'm afraid Frozen is gonna be, the same thing, just another movie more focused on emulating the formula without any of the creative elements that made so many other films like it last for years and years. If you ask me, I'd take an interesting movie that made strong choices over just an okay movie any day.

For all the critical analysis and merits, more people liked Tangled than PatF. It was better received too. Setting and tone? Whatever it takes to bash it down, forget picking them to pieces, Tangled is still just a plain better movie.
I can still put on Tangled and enjoy it, I've never really felt compelled to go back and watch PatF, and I'm not the only one. Compared to other Disney movies? PatF does not stand out to me, and it is really not worth remembering to me.
I can concede that from a technical standpoint, PatF is a better movie, does more with what it has and takes bigger risks and doesn't appeal to a low common denominator. But I don't watch Disney children's movies for their technical aspects.

The important thing I think everyone can agree on, is that Brave was terrible.

Seems Frozen is doing well based on early critic reviews. I'll be sure to check it out later this month.

Hmmmm. I don't know why I haven't posted in this thread yet considering I've seen the movie.
Well, it's good. To say it's OK or bad would be unfair. Is it the next Beauty and the Beast? No. But it's as good if not better than Tangled.
I won't give away anything about the plot but it's got little to nothing to do with the original material. There's a strong emphasis on the relationship between the sisters, which as a sister I can greatly appreciate. There's a particular scene in the end that made me want to applause right in the middle of the theater. It's got the perfect moral note.
Complaints? The musical numbers are all shoved right into the beginning. It's very quiet toward the end. There's also an unnecessary antagonist but I won't say too much about that without going into spoiler territory.
OH, and one more thing. As Ky was saying, the trailers are super misleading. The snowman character is adorable. He's so enjoyable. They make him out to be a Jar Jar Binks in the trailer but he's nothing like it. There's an incredibly morbid joke in his musical number that had me roaring.
Verdict: go see it if you like Disney and musicals.

It's better than anything Pixar has made in the last 5 years. Especially that piece of shit, Brave.
It's funny, how Pixar is circling the drain, and Disney keeps getting better and better.
