When two of the pirates ran to impede the cowboys path, but take no other action, he reached into his duster while still on the ground. Since Singleton's attack he hadn't yet holstered the sawn-off shotgun, and so fired at the pirates before him, one barrel each. Perhaps he could have aimed to kill them outright, but in this instance his choice was to shoot at their legs in an attempt to kneecap them.

When the shotgun came out, the two pirates reacted in distinctly different fashions. Vincent's response was to charge forward, planning to put his axe in the cowboy before the shotgun could be fired, but he had underestimated how fast and how good a shot the cowboy was. The bullet hit, and he fell to the ground, along with his axe, which landed beside him.
The man in black had the opposite reaction, and jumped backwards. He hoped he could dodge the attack completely, and was disappointed, among other, stronger emotions, when the shot hit his leg, taking him out of commission for the moment as well.
From behind the cowboy, Singleton had not only managed to bring himself to a full stand, he was limping closer to his target. As soon as the cowboy was within his range, the pirate raised his good arm, the one with the mesh of chains still attached, and swung it downwards. The chains did not move as if on their own like they had before, but the captain by himself was strong enough to wield them as effectively as he would any normal weapon, and had aimed them right at the cowboy, as he was still preoccupied with shooting the pair of pirates.

The chains brought down, and the cowboy caught reloading, couldn't do anything to stop it now. There was a resounding crunch as they pounded on him, and he moved no more, some unspent bullets rolling about.
"Hey, well done! You beat him."
From out of the actual building on whose porch they had all ended the fight, came a young woman missing an arm and a leg, and an eye to boot but using a crutch for walking and standing support. Bobbing about her was a little softball-sized machine, which seemed to be able to react and speak about what was happening.
"Well done? My non-existant ass, they're all half dead."
"Er... well we can see to that, but the important thing is they beat the Doctor."
She would have done a cheer, or a hip hip hooray type celebration, but she couldn't without falling over. Instead, she just made her way over to the cowboy and carefully hit him with her crutch, to make sure he was unconscious. He wasn't, he groaned in response, but he was surely defeated as evidenced by the robot now looting his pockets.

The Captain took a few deep, ragged breaths following his last attack. Just from feeling alone, he knew his strike had an effect of some kind, but he was not the sort to declare a battle won until he was entirely sure. Even after the young woman gave her congratulations, the chains warily prodded the cowboy's body, before retracting back to their master.
"Heh. A simple task, for a gentleman of fortune like myself. Do you not agree, boys?"
As if on cue, the pirates who had stayed behind the buildings came walking out, like bugs from woodwork. Even Vincent and the man in black began to stand up, despite the state of their legs.
"Half dead, eh?" Vincent snarled. "Might wanna try speakin' fer yerself on that one, matey."
"Out of action from a single shot..." said the man in black. "As a swordsman, no, as a man, I am ashamed. Captain, I beg you, let me fight to my fullest in the next battle. I will more than make up for the embarrassment."
"There's no shame, Mr. Alcantra," Singleton laughed. "You did precisely as I needed. As a reward for your obedience, and your sacrifice, I shan't hold you back again."
"Wait," said the bespectacled man, "You seriously want more battles after this one? After seeing what one man could do with mere guns?"
"Of course," said Benjamin quietly. "Now, we know what to expect."
"More fights, more glory. This is a road we've already settled on. And I will not be stopping."
"C'mon, Simon," said Vincent, hobbling over to give the bespectacled man a friendly pat on the shoulder. "That dusty marksman didn't scare you, right?"
"Cautious, I may be, but I am not scared." Simon took on a more serious tone here, glaring at Vincent from behind his glasses. "You know they've yet to see what I'm capable of."
"What we're capable of, my friend," said Alcantra, as he made his way over to the young woman. Upon positioning himself to be directly in front of her, he removed his hat and sunk into a low bow. "Forgive the manners of my shipmates, miss. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart,"
"Oy," said Harry, the young child. As the other pirates had gathered around the young woman or their captain, he had gone off on his own, and was peering with curiosity and anxiety at the robot. "What's this thing?"
"Dangerous, most likely. I would advise against touching it."
"If you've time to look at that, Harry, go and gather the bits o' me that got scattered, will you? And somebody fetch my bloody hat!"
Following his orders, Harry dutifully scattered around the street, gathering together the broken bits of chain that were the unfortunate result of the pirate's battle. Singleton, meanwhile, shoved Alcantra aside to speak directly to the young woman, clearly trying to present himself as uninjured as he could under the circumstances.
"Now then, lass, I'd say that our work here is finished. We'll skip our usual plundering of the town for now, the battle was reward enough. As for our business. I take it there are more fools like the Doctor awaitin' us. Where might we find the next one?"
It was as though the bullets and explosions that had taken so much out of him were so far in the past that they were now forgotten. All the pirates could see was their next fight.

"Oy, What's this thing?" the robot imitated, or rather repeated perfectly, in mocking as it attempted to clamp at the child with an extended claw.
"Hey hey, no, bad!"
Kaede shouted in an attempt to prevent the robot from stealing some of Harry's teeth, but she was interrupted by the approach of the captain. He was much bigger than she was and gruesome from the fight, so she was understandably taken aback when he rounded on her, and a little frightened even. It took her a moment to get past that in her mind, and process what he said before she could respond.
"Now then, lass, I'd say that our work here is finished. We'll skip our usual plundering of the town for now, the battle was reward enough. As for our business. I take it there are more fools like the Doctor awaitin' us. Where might we find the next one?"
"I uh... right away! Here you go, invitations! Looks like a cruise or something, on a boat? Congratulations!"
She felt almost like a travel agent when she handed to him, a number of tickets to some river tour on a fancy boat. It was something she could set her mind to at least, in the hope of getting past his forward nature and questioning.
All the while the robot slowly neared the boy with a syringe, looking to take something.

The child, Harry, did not really have a lot of experience with robots, but from the one he had just met, was already starting to form a rather unfavorable opinion of them. Or, it could have just been his reaction to the syringe, which he was not pleased about at all.
"Enough of that," Harry snarled, surprisingly viciously for one so small, as he waved a knife meaninglessly at the robot. "Back away. Now."
Off to the side, Vincent seemed to be having a blast watching the child and the robot, clapping his hands with glee, as though he was watching a comedy act. "Aye, that's it, laddie! Don't fall back, now! Be a man!"
Meanwhile, Singleton himself paid no attention to his littlest shipmate's plight, being more concerned with Kaede. He snatched away the tickets from her, glanced at them, rifled through them to see if there was enough for his crewmates, then glanced back to Kaede with a strange sort of sneer.
"Well, thank ye kindly. We ain't hardly spoken at all, and already I've received a gift. I like you, girlie." Not taking his eyes off of Kaede's, he took one ticket at random, and held it out to the side, gesturing it to one of his fellow pirates. "Simon, what do ye think of it?"
The bespectacled man took the invitation, adjusted his glasses, and carefully read the contents. "Just like she says, cap'n," he said. "Looks like we've been invited to a river tour. Rather decadent, if we go by appearances."
"Aye. Decadent. Just what I been thinkin'. We already have a ship of our own, but, since you were so kind to give these to us, I'd say it shouldn't hurt to pay it a visit. Aye, mates?"
"It would be an honor, I say."
"Interesting choice, inviting pirates like us to a fancy ship."
"River boats are different from seafaring ships," Benjamin remarked. "This won't be what all of us are used to."
"I like it," said Singleton. "Rivers, oceans, on any ship is where I'm most at home. I'm restless already." He tucked the tickets into his jacket pocket. "Now then, I think we've some injuries to tend to, before we give this boat our usual greetings. Are we finished here?"
