"Well I'm sorry if that's a problem Jack, maybe I should have told you but we've been doing this for a good few months now. Always keep an eye out for the least likely to win, then help them to do so."
Toulouse could tell that Jack was angry, and he had plenty right to be, but from a realistic point of view he didn't have much personal issue with it. Either Jack or Timo would have won, and the prize was substantial so there wasn't much he felt he had to defend. And anyway, was it really worse than what the others would have done? Lombarg would have enslaved them if the marines weren't looking, and Glenmora would have stripped their ships down to the very nails for any memories therein. Honestly, was that any worse than your average day on the Grand Line?
"The official reward for the race is nice, but the bets that go on between the merchants in the fleet is much greater. So you two showed up last to the convoy, I got an idea of who you were and what you were capable of, and knew everyone would bet against you."
Although Jack took the clipboard no problem, Toulouse still had the pen in his hand, wiggling it back and forth between his fingers.
"Well, you sure showed them at any rate. If that doesn't sit well with you though, you should probably take it up with the girl they're all cheering about. She's got half of your winnings, technically."
---
No problem at all, in grabbing the prize. Well, perhaps Royal shut the box lid a little too fast and a little too hard, perhaps in the hope of trapping Timo's fingers before she could get the contents. It wasn't a success though, but it did make the whole transfer appear quite professional. Either way, he continued to smile for the sake of not drawing the ire of the other merchants or the Navy officer, but had trouble seeing the prize go.
"Not nearly as quick as you, flying through the air like that. Could have sworn I heard some screaming, oh but that was probably from my own crew."
He bowed out and took his leave at that, letting everyone else have their bit, saying his goodbyes before he returned to his ship.
"Ah, but there's always next time."
And with that, the rest of the convoy gave their congratulations and continued cheers, but no longer acted to block Timo in. Neither did the Navy officer, though she made no effort to escort Timo out, but instead push a clear path through the crowd to make her own way out. An easy to follow path no less.
